GOTM 16: Montezuma

Following on from last months' deity game, we relax the difficulty a bit with a game played at prince level. This game is on a small pangea map, as the Aztecs - and aggressive civ with an early unique unit. It should therefore be a quick game, especially for those that want to vent a little frustration via early conquest!

This game MUST be played in patch version 1.61. We will NOT accept any games played under any other patch versions, and you can't play it in warlords!

Further, it MUST be played using HOF mod version 1.61.010.

Game settings:
Civilization: Aztec (Leader: Montezuma ; Traits: Aggressive, Spiritual)
Rivals: 4
Difficulty: Prince
Map: Pangea
Mapsize: Small
Climate: cold
Water level: Low
Starting Era: Ancient
Speed: Normal
Options: Aggressive AI, Raging Barbs
Victory Conditions: all enabled

Montezuma:
Montezuma is Aggressive and Spiritual; starting with Hunting and Mysticism. Aggressive allows a free combat 1 promotion for melee & gunpowder units, and double production speed of barracks and drydocks. Spiritual allows no anarchy when changing civics, as well as double production speed of temples.

Unique unit: Jaguar:
The Jaguar replaces the standard swordsman. The strength is reduced by 1 to 5, and the cost is reduced by 5 hammers from 40 to 35. In addition to the 10% attack bonus for cities, the Jaguar receives an additional 25% defensive bonus for jungle. Critically, unlike the swordsman, it is a resourceless unit - you don't need to have secured iron.

The starting screenshot is here (click for a bigger version!)

Adventurer Class bonuses:
 1. Start knowledge of mining.
 2. Start with a worker.

Challenger Class Equalisers:
 1. All other civilizations begin with an archer.
 2. All other civilizations start with a bonus tech.

Hehee. Being a few hours before the rest of the Western world here in Finland really gives me a chance to get started early. I'm glad if this game will be short as I don't have much time to play...

EDIT: ehh... Where are the saves?

EDIT2: Nevermind, they're up now.

This one looks like a lot of fun. :)

I lost my vanilla disc moving so can only play warlords or I'd be playing this one for sure. :)

Hi!

This has been the first time i've played a GOTM, and it was a blast.

I am now wondering where and how to upload it now that it's done. I think i've seen a thread or post on that, but can't find it right now

Also, I forgot to save one turn before i won the game, will that be a problem?

Having trouble downloading the save ... I get message to open with CIV4 or to save to disc

Help much appreciated.

No doubt I am doing something really dumb

You are seeing the FireFox save file dialogue box.

Change the radio button to "Save to Disc". Then you will be able to save the file in folder "My Documents\My Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 4\Saves\single", or some other folder if you desire.

Thanks for reply, but when I click "save to disc", nothing happens (stupid question, but do I need a disc to save it to?)
I have never used firefox before  .

Or do I have to have Civ4 running to download the save - seems odd to me?

Firefox will save the file to the location specified in the Firefox Download Settings (you don't choose for each file depending on settings). You can open the Download Manager from the Menu to find exactly where it saves all downloaded files:

Tools/Downloads

and Tools/Options

As Erkon suggests, under Tools/Options, on the Main tab, there is an option "Always ask me where to save files"

Click that on, and thereafter for all downloads you will be shown a normal save dialogue box that will allow you to place downloaded files wherever they need to go.

Otherwise they all end up in a default folder somewhere, or on the desktop.

I think this is beyond my computer illiterate skills.
The only options I can get are to open with ..., or to save to disc. I have clicked on the button "always ask me where to save files"
I'll wait till my son visits next and no doubt he'll be able to help (he built the PC)

btw Tools / Downloads brings me to an empty downloads file

Sorry for asking a probably stupid question... but did you clicked on the "OK" after selecting save to disk? Firefox seems to have some kind of security measure, and you need to click on the OK first, and it will become "clickable". Then click it again and you'll download your game

Well I didnt want to save it to disc, so no. I was hoping to get option to save in ... browse, so I could put it in Civ 4 saves folder. It seems I can only get options to save to disc or open with ...browse

edit
just tried save to disc and voila ... I get options to save where I want to so its all go ... thanks all for help :goodjob:
