Wow, that's a generous starting spot for Monarch! Well apart from the rest of the tiles being plains, that's not so nice, no 4-turner 'til out of Despotism, and some thinking to do w.r.t. the best combo factory to run. 4-6 warrior/settler is maybe the best to try, still a bit of shield overrun on the warrior.

Turns 1 & 2: +3f, 8s (2 cows, 1 irr. plain, 1 mined plain, center) = warrior (eugh, 6 shield overrun)
Turn 3: +4f, 9s (2 cows, 2 irr. plain, mined plain on growth, center)
Turns 4 & 5: +3f, 9s (2 cows, 2 irr. plains, 1 mined plain, center)
Turn 6: +4f, 10s (2 cows, 3 irr. plains, mined plain on growth, center) = settler (7 shield overrun)

There must be a better option but I ain't seeing it right now.

Well, first don't care to mine for growth. Second work Coast at 3fpt. Third find some kind of bonus in the fog.

Gah. The other option is to do a 5-turn settler + a turn of wealth (eeew).

Probably the better option is to move inland and find a BG or sugar or something.

You won't find any sugar in PTW. Fog-gazing tells me that there are plains all around. I see no benefit in moving.

In any form of govt, there'll be no benefit to working a coast tile over working a river tile with a road, both will give 2 (despo) or 3 (non-despo) commerce. So I would rather have a mined river plains tile to work and pick up on growth than not.

For technologies, research literature, map making and then build the Great Lighthouse with Madrid on the coast?

Spain are Rel/Com in PtW, so we start with CB+Alpha (or just Alpha for Predator players).

On an Archi map, going Pottery->Writing->MM and having a pre-build for TGL is probably going to be a good move. Monarch level so it should be easy to pull off. Hopefully there will be a neighbor to supply us with BW or Masonry to give us a better pre-build than a Granary.

Thanks, I misspoke. Research pottery->writing->map making to build the Great Lighthouse in Madrid. And if it is a possibility at monarch level to research literature before map making, use the GL as a pre-build and then switch to the GL in a different city.
