1050bc - This was a year for settlers. Thunderfalls and Marl Downs both started settlers. Citizens of Reneaux decided to do a bit of over-time and $2 was spent of IPRB a settler. Former Domestic Advisor Mordhiem was granted a town as a reward for his services to his country, and so Mordhiemia was founded on the site formally known as M2.

$11 IPRB diplomat

975bc - Dellham builds settlers who make off for River Mouth. They are joined by the nearby legion to escort them safely.

950bc - RC builds a diplomat which heads off for Elysium in the hope of making First Contact with some other nation. The people of RC are getting used to Celerbrating their Queen and decide to build a temple in her honour! Settlers arrive at the coast and decide to name their dwelling after President Civ, founder of the monarchy.

925bc - Dellham settlers and escort continue their walk along the river towards the sea.

*Queen Jayne called a meeting in the Presidential Palace in Regis Civitas. Present were Counsellor Nemo, Explorer Civ1, Admiral Mordhiem and Professor Philosopher12.

"What do we do next? Many cities are building settlers. Where do you wish to send them, and what to build next? And what shall we name these new cities. Next turn we shall discover the secret of Literacy. What is your next goal of learning? How else would you like to improve our nation? Discuss."*

And you neglect to mention your faithful vice president, waiting, should you *ahem* suffer an accident.

Serously, though, after this turn, expect the first issue of the Fanatical to be released later on this afternoon.

We have a fat Treasury of 134 gold. Our Settler and Legion are hiding in the marshes of the River, about to found the River Mouth city, Castle Jayne with moat, in 2 turns. Of our enemies, both Delhi and now Kiev have population 4.

900 BC, 240,000 pop in 9 cities, changing to 30,00,70% $13 -0, Sci 25 / 5 turns, F11 Mfg= 30 #1, Family Size = an astounding 8.1, also #1. Nuf is also #1 in Land, Literacy, Life expectancy and Productivity, #2 in Population.

Researching Literacy, 1 more turn, known: Alphabet, Bronze, CBurial, CodeLaws, Monarchy, Pottery, WarriorCode and Writing. Need Currency, Trade, Map Making etc, then Mike's Chapel.

1 Settler heading to River Mouth Site, 7 Settlers in production, all cities stable for the moment, 4 Warriors, 3 Phalanx, 1 Archer, 2 Legions, 1 Horse, 2 Chariot, 1 Diplomat, building 1 Temple and Colossus. 11 Units Supported, 3 None.

Regia Civitas is Celebrating Civ1 and our Queen Jayne. The 2 Whales and Fish are generating 3 surplus Food, 13 Trade, 5 Tax + 8 Science, and 5 shields. Temple 10/40. With 1 content and 2 guards, grow in 1 turn to Size 4, we will then hire Elvis so as to continue the Celebration until the Temple is complete, 5 more turns. Then what?

Little Nemo, No content + 1 guard, Settlers 34/40, would grow in 5, but Settlers in 2. Guard must stay, can not move even for a moment to RC. Maybe needs another Warrior guard, prefer not a Temple.

TFalls, 1 content and 1 guard, grows in 8, Settlers 13/40 in 9, could IRPB $8 Phx=20

Civvium, guard approaching, 0 Content, grows in 8, Settlers 6/40 in about 11 turns. Consider Temple or another guard.

Elysium, Colossus 111/200, grows now, MOVE WHALERS TO FOREST, then Colossus in about 14 turns. Will grow in 30 turns, needs Temple after Colossus.

Dellham, 0 Content w 2 guards, Settlers 12/40 in 7 before grows in 9, but founding RM Castle Jayne in 2 turns will change that, need IPRB $8 Phx=20.

Reneaux, 0 Content and 2 guards, Settlers 24/40, grows in 4 ok, Settlers in 5.

Marl Downs, Settler 10/40, grows in 1, 0 content+guard means must finish while Size 2, work Forest ... Settlers in perhaps 9 turns.

Mordhiemia is 10/40 Settler, grows in 2 turns, Settler in about 11 turns. Needs another Road for our serfs.

Only 3 Content citizens, all others red.

Seems no big problems, so lets wrangle once more where to build the Colossus. In 6 turns RC will have finished its Temple, and we make the final decision. Little Nemo Settlers in 2 turns, Reneaux Settlers in 5 turns. LN goes East to build 1 road, then what? Build 1 road on the other side of LN, and found F2! Reneaux Settlers to found M1. Any work to do along the way? And what else?

Surely, spend gold every possible time $8=10 $8=20 $8=30 to speed the new Castle Jayne Settler, so it can begin working near Elysium.

Please Appoint a Governor of the Northern Provinces

I agree with duke, the whale is better than the forest.

Elysium seams to grow 1 pop next turn, which will give us a city with 1 happy, 1 con and 1 unh. Next turn 116s have been worked, 111 + 5, or is it 7? If we place the new worker in the forest, the city's production is 7s. (200-116)/7 = 12 turns for Colossus to finish...
If we place this new guy in the forest, we'll only have 1 food surplus, and we need 40f to next growth. We got 12 while building the colossus, so we need 28 more. If we switch the forest worker to the shieldgrassland, the growth will be in 14 turns after the completion of the Colossus, and we'll have 6 shields per turns, which will be enough to finsih a temple before the next growth. Of course we can place the worker somewhere else, like in the jungle, trade:).

Conclusion: I htink we can build the colossus and a temple(, or colosseum) before we reach size four.

In RC, I think I'm tempted to start on another Wonder, which can be switched to something more useful like Marco's (or even Leo's) later on.

We don't want Elysium to grow too quickly though. If we can slow down growth until we finish the Colossus then we will be in a better position to deal with the unhappiness when it does grow, having built a temple or unit after the wonder. Max shields and enough food to keep us going should be the basic rule. :goodjob:

The reason we move the Whalers to the forest is this: Elysium will grow, and that moment is managed by the AI. The AI will pick the Whales. So, we never loose a turn of Whale production, but we gain a turn of Forest production, assuming max Colossus is what you want. And slow ELysium growth.

It's a micro management technique. Ever seen the foolish AI move your new serf to a pure green without road? Avoid it.

Funxus: Colossus then Temple, I agree. Keep both guards.

What do the Reneaux Settlers do? Can we build Colossus in Regia Civitas? And, found F2 along the way to Elysium, right?

And dukes, what about the new Governor? May I.

Good thinking GN! :goodjob:
I learn something new almost every week at this site. :)

I am not best suited to be governor or President simply because I can't download the game at work, and don't have a PC to play it on at home. As far as I'm concerned then it's fine for you to give the job to whoever you want, or, more likely, to whoever volunteers. :D

I hate to say it but I think we are about to lose out on Colossus. The AI usually only takes about 20-25 turns with its first wonder. With the production bonus it gets, it can start the wonder after us and still get it done before us. The Indians started Colossus at 1700 BC (turn 47), it is now 900 BC (turn 65). It's already been 18 turns. It could be anywhere from 2 to 6 turns that they may be done.

Having RC build a Wonder was partially meant to keep this from happening. We probably should have delayed RC building a wonder until we were certain Elysium could get the Colossus done in time.

I give the AI less than five turns before they annouce they will be done with Colssus.

Agree on moving the whale to forest. And I would also like to bring up the possibilty of disbanding all the units inside Elysium and save as much cash as possible. If we can get two or three turns in before they annouce we may be able to beat them.

I would like to seriously recommend making the tax rate 70% and the science rate 30% to give us as much cash as possible. It's going to be close as it is. Better safe than sorry.

So, move worker to forest, change tax rate and be prepared to disband units. We may not need to do all, but I'm 99% sure we won't have enough time to let Elysium build Colossus normally.

I guess that the science we lose in the next few turns will not really matter - the collosus will help us make it back pretty quickly.

How many units can we disband before the people get restless?
How much money is required to rush the collosus?
Can we (quickly) bring units from other cities to disband them?

It's had 3 turns to move. I'm not sure of the first 2 squares, but the last four are shield NW of LN, west, NW, west.

Road routes aren't hard to work out anyway. I would like to see us build the road over that silk near Elysium, it's not out of our way and it, of course, will improve trade from that square :goodjob: Also it partly eliminates the movement disadvantage of forest :)

i have no idea what to do cause ive been away for a while...im in college doing Legal Studies, hard work...but this thread gets me up to speed a little bit. :)

I would just like to say that I agree fully with Duke's proposal for rescuing the Colossus from the hands of the evil Indians. We could be in dire straits science-wise if we don't get the Colossus and a major offensive would be necessary to get a SS victory. It is possible to win the game without the SSC: we all did it before we knew about the tactic but things will be a lot easier with it than without it.
