No AI declarations of war?

I'm finding, since the last update, that AI leaders no longer appear and declare war on the player, they just attack without warning. The first you notice it is when an enemy unit starts pillaging something. Is this just me, or have others noticed it as well?

At least in my current game I've been declared twice normally with the leader appearing as usual. Any mods or remnants of them that could be haunting your game?

I've not had anyone initiate war on me at all. Plenty of denouncing, but I've initiated every war. It's been strange, usually I get a few DoWs in the early game, but nada recently.

I have noticed the AI makes it’s first moves in a war and then the blip for them declaring it in conversation comes up.

I've received a few DoW since this last update. They are more prepared for a war, when they do. Just be sure to keep your troop levels high enough to not look like a target, IMO

I also had Robert the Bruce massing troops along my borders, but a quick good deal/friendship/alliance stopped that in its tracks. I was totally not prepared for a war at that time.

The AI has made a Dow on me by surprise too before. I have lost my capital before because of lack of units but sometimes it has been the opposite. :)
After the update the AI has made more surprise DoWs.

I tried my first game as Ethiopia recently. I got a surprise joint war declared on me by Eleanor/England & Cleo, then the next turn I received another surprise war by Japan. I was absolutely expecting Japan to declare on me, and Cleo wasn't shocker either: Eleanor, I wasn't expecting but I was prepared. They thought I was an easy target but they were wrong.

I've had a few declared on me. All suprise wars. And two of them were by a neighbor that may have had a slightly largwr military than me, but had stalled out on peaceful expansion. My last game, Tamar declared with two warriors, one arcjer and still only her capitol.

I just remembered something. It had to have been before the patch because it was the stupidest thing I had seen in a while. I started a new save and Khmer declared war on me. Instead of attacking my cities that were closer to him. He pointed his troops right for my capital. I had archers stationed in my 4 or 5 other cities so he never managed to reach my capital with all of his troops. Only a few got anywhere near it. I was like "Dude, what were you thinking?" He wasted his entire military force trying to take a capital he had 0 chance of ever reaching.
