No Characters

I tried a game using the 'No Characters' option which takes characters and families out of the equation. I was enjoying the simplicity of the game and declared war on another empire. I met my objectives and decided to make peace, but I could find no way to do so! I would like to explore this option some more, but will need basic diplomacy to be available to me. Can anyone shed some light?

So, no ambassador. If you go to the tab that depicts foreign civ's and tribes, does selecting a civ give you the option to establish peace?

Just heard back from Designers that it is as designed. You need to beat the AI up enough to offer you a truce.
