No Gold on Rivers and Ocean - I'm stuck -80 GPT - Help!

Geez! I asked for some advise and all you do is belittle me! :(

Are you all a bunch of noobs who have ever created an empire before? I've played this game for over 20 years since CIV 1. Wish I had the time for multiplayer. I'd be fun to slaughter all your petty little civs early on. Think Soviet union vs. Sweden who'd win?

Last night I sped ahead really well. I'm now researching Astronomy and barbarians are no more since pretty much all land is mine. I might still reach the others before they reach me. :)

FYI - most cities kept were kept because they produced unique luxuries.

I still think removing gold from ocean and rivers in an abomination. It has been there since CIV 1 !!!

And there we are...a bit justified all things considered but we did not ALL belittle you.

In regards to noobism though, all things considered I doubt any of us here have ever reached such a deficit especially on king so I doubt if you would have a victory that easy with science at 35 beakers per turn at 500Ad all things considered.

Glad you turned it around but heed my advice: Calm down and play a couple of games before challenging. There are some scarey players here

Corruption was there too until Civ4. Gold from roads was the same way, that too was removed in Civ4. Road spam was a common thing until Civ5. Things get tweaked to improve the game.

As for defeating us in a multiplayer game. Well, if it was a game with continents and you had -80 gpt, you probably wouldn't win, no.

I did not belittle anyone. But I gladly accpet your challenge!! Send me a pm as to the date of this great butt kicking MP game!! I am also an old fart who has played since Civ 1. We are a dime a dozen on these forums mate. I call Dibs on The Shoshone.

Think Soviet union vs. Sweden who'd win?

Remind us which one of these countries still exists? ;)

Did you intentionally pick a country that expanded to an enormous and bloated size, that couldn't maintain a sprawling empire for lack of funds and economic prosperity, thereby allowing its rivals around the world to surpass it in money, tech and infrastructure? Seems like a great analogy....

I look at Russia today and don't see much difference between them and the old USSR. Except a few freedoms like importing consumer products.

If your defination of being a noob is having greater than 0 GPT then yes we all are noobs.

Maybe you should learn to adapt to positive rule changes each iteration brings rather than complaining pointlessly.

Not belittling you at all. Just questioning why you don't take the advice given. Also, wondering why you picked on clear pure sarcasm as the only post to highlight (oh how I wish he wouldn't have posted that).

Gaining all those cities is fine. I've no idea why you annexed a couple instead of puppeting them though. Also, all the roads you've built, and all the units and buildings you've got. Ouch. We're giving advice for the long haul. You may be able to recover this game without taking it, but you should listen up for your further gaming enjoyment.

Cheers.

compare a 1985 map to a current map?

and of course the USSR from 1960 was on part with the United States for global power, influence and technology. during the next 50 years the gap just kept expanding.

I can imagine the end of game civ charts already. Soviet Union and the US burst up out of WWII, way higher than the rest of the world, then the Soviet Union stagnates while the US keeps rising, then the Soviet Union falls when it loses tons of area and population during the transition to Russia.

I've been playing Civ since Civ I also.....hell, I was in my 30's when it came out. I sure hope you haven't spent the last twenty some years being a one trick pony.

It's great that you've played since Civ I but you should probably learn to adapt to Civ V's rules rather than complain about how it isn't exactly like the games that preceded it.

Yes... intentionally somewhat as the raise of Soviet started with tremendous suffering in the 20's... But I'm not as nice them as this is only a game. 1985 Soviet could have had Sweden for breakfast. Who'd dare do anything about it? One nation at a time...global domination! Don't you ever win like that? That is my most common win.

Unfortunately both you and the others here have it wrong in regards to the Soviet regime but this is completely off the threads topic.

Not only are YOU off topic, you're also wrong that we are wrong. Snuffleupagus is correct and so am I.

Spoiler :

All my cites and all but a few CS are religious now. I have also secured several key wonders and have 5 trade routes. The other CIVs are so small and pathetic. If I moved ALL my troops at once I could easily wipe out all 4 remaining capitals early. But that is so boring. I like to see my cities complete with everything possible to build built. Then I choose the winning type I want.

Then with a cocky voice he exclaimed:
And all of you said it could not be done... I'm certain my score would far outweigh yours at the end. Oh that's right - you gave up and quit or razed yourself into mediocre Swedens.

Guess that makes me pretty cool huh?
:king:

I hope your crow tastes good!:D
