No jumpstart?

Ugh... I hate that each time they release a new version of Civ they have to take parts out so they can sell us the features again later.

I was cool with waiting for PBEM - which I understand has been confirmed and will hopefully make it out with the pitboss server patch etc etc - as that is how I spent a couple years playing Civ4 with a friend of mine. :)

BUT - there is no jump start feature like there was in civ 4 is there? (Granted that wasn't in until one of the expansions...) But - being able to allot X number of points to each player to help kick the village and unit counts up at the start of the game was a great feature for every game I played!

Really disappointed this appears to not be in the game right now.

Please - PLEASE - correct me if I am wrong.

Barely anyone in multiplayer actually used that... Not a surprise it was taken out.

Really? Hrm... surprises me to hear that people didn't really use it. Especially in the PBEM games it helped with the first month of play - to not be such small moves. :)

Well, PBEM is not something I ever used, nor is it all that common for other MP I believe. It's obviously altogether faster to play simultaneous turns; so, that issue of "small moves" in the beginning is really not an issue because everyone ends their first turns quickly.

Actually - you are probably incorrect in your assumptions... A. It is all client side and no way to be recorded... So we really don't know if jumpstart isn't used or if it is.

We know PBEM was popular enough for them to realize and to say that they will add. It was even popular enough for a 3rd party app to be made to help assist in sending the emails with services like GMail.

To make some other assumptions - since we are doing that - I am going out on a limb and saying that people who play PBEM would be likely to use the jumpstart feature.

Not everyone plays simultaneous turns games (well - we do now) :) and not everyone is interested in the fastest playing games... The people I would PBEM with - games would take like 6-8 months to play... it was great!

I played simultaneous and loved advanced start. Saved me a good 30-60 minutes of play. Worked well in several massive LAN games I played, too...

This is basically the same thing as the animations argument. Yes, there are people that like pretty much any feature. Even the dumbest, most tedious features probably had at least 1 fan... But whether or not to include it is largely an issue of convenience. When the developers have time maybe they'll come back to advanced start, but for now I hardly think many would agree it's a pressing issue.

I hope it at least gets considered to be included at the same time as the pitboss server. :)

I have a large group of friends with the game - we all want to longplay it up (2 turns a day like we've done before) - and I know our group would be disappointed to have to start at the very start. :p It is really these types of games I see a stronger argument for it - (granted it is great as the other mentioned for the 30-60 minutes it can save at a LAN event) but in the few turns a day games - it is a great feature.

Oh well - time will tell.
