No metal weapons for Crusaders or Paramanders?

Assassins target the weakest unit in the stack. They wont target chalid as he should never be below full health.

As someone said to me in the empyrrean thread, the best way to beat chalid is to split stacks and keep most of your units away from him. But the AI does not do this.

The strength of the unit is not the only criteria that determines what unit an Assassin (or any unit with the Marksman promotion) will attack. Some promotions make a unit more or less likely to be targeted too. These promotions include Hero as well as channeling 1, 2, and 3, which Chalid has. It is possible for him to be the target even at full health, although it doesn't happen all that often.
