I own the Fantastic Worlds expansion cd to civ 2. Many years ago this cd was enough to let me hear music in the game. And such lovely music the game has. But after a few years, my computer refused to play the music, altough the cd was inserted. I just got the message, that there was no cd in the computer, and I couldnt figure out what was wrong. Well yesterday I bought civ2 again, not the expansion, but plain civ2 :)

Havnet played the game in years, but it such a great game, and wish such a great music. But still I get no music, and I really want it. So now im tired of no music, ive searched on google, and on this forum, I havent found a solution yet. I saw another thread about the music problem, so im not the only who has it, but nobody seems to know whats wrong. And I cannot belive nobody havent figured this out yet.

So please, let me know what to do, the game is almost 2different game, with and without the music :)

Do you run Windows XP? On my XP installation the original game won't let me change what music to hear but it still plays it.

The Civ2 music is in normal CD Audio format, so you could just rip the music tracks (not track 1; that is the data track) to your hard drive and play it in yoru favourite media player while playing Civ.

Yup I have Win Xp. How do I rip the music? what program should I use? that would be so great to have those great songs on my computer !

Try this link: http://www.dbpoweramp.com/

Just remember that track 1 is the data track and will only come out as rubbish.
A side effect of having the music in CD Audio format is that you can play the music on a normal CD player.

Tried easy cd ripper, I was only able to rip the track 1 file, its was the only one who appeared, and when I played that file, I only heard awefull horrible noises. Yes ive tried the civ2 cd in my cd player, no music at all :|

Ok, I tried ripping the fantastic worlds, and it worked right away. Wonder why the original didnt work :\

But thanks anyway :)

Do normal audio CD work? I had the same issue on a previous computer, and I concluded it was a CD drive issue.

Ive just reinstalled Civ II again. Ive got the same problem.

thing is, the music worked fine on classic. Then i installed FW (via Cedrics patch) and now the music wont play, this is using the original Classic CD. And it can't be my drive cos a) it worked fine before FW was installed and b) its running from an ISO image not the CD-Rom drive.

I dont really want to rip to mp3 cos then then music isnt controlled by the game. I like it when events happen and changes the music.

Aprt from new scenarios and extended editor, what other added features does FW bring ? I might go back to Classic for now.

Got it sorted.

Actually thinking about what i said .... i dont think the music was working before i installed FW patch. I was probably mistaken with the Title music still playing after i had started a game. Anyway the music worked perfectly in 2.42 and in FW with the real CD in. Thing is CivII still registered the CD as present for the videos when using the CD image, but not for the music. I just swapped the Drive letter of my real CD drive and the one created by Daemon tools and now music plays perfectly using the CD Image - yay !!
