Hi to all,

why does no one ever attacke me?
I play as warlord, I am number one in the score list and till 1860 no one attacks me. So the games is only about producing, producing, producing...
It really get's boring with the time.

So, how do I change this situation? I want some action in this game!! What am I making false? Any suggesstions?? Thanks!!

PS I am using the addon but at the moment no mod. Perhaps a mod will change this? And what is all this fuss about vassalle? I had never the option to use it. It just says: We are doing fine alone. SO: I am the strongest but even then I do not have this option free???

I am frustrated.....

I've found that playing a Custom Game and increasing the number of Civs creates more conflict. For instance, I usually play large maps with 12 or even 14 Civs (instead of the default 9). That causes more crowding and leads to more wars.

Try the 'aggressive AI' option when you setup a custom game. Crowding the map helps as well.

I think your problem is probably that playing at the warlord difficulty means that you're the highest on the power graph. AIs won't attack you if you have a stronger/larger army. In this case go up a difficulty or go on the offensive yourself. After all, someone needs to start the war.

Yes, but this is not quite realistic, isn't it?! For centuries no one does attack me... In the whole game there has been so far just a few short wars.
You said I am the strongest: but why don't some others just make an alliance and attack me?

I am playing Civ since its first version and to me in the older titles this topic had been resolved better.

But ok, more people more fun and a higher difficulty. Some more ideas perhaps? What about all the good mods we have? Do they change something in this point?

Stop playing warlord level.

There's very little challenge until you get up to prince, and you will learn a lot more by playing on harder levels.

My experience with that option was that the leaders just got a bad mood and did not want to trade with me. So in this case all the diplomatic concept of the game (which I think is the most interesting) is not really usuable anymore.

But ok, I'try this again: more aggressive AI.

In fact I am a little bit surprised that the AI seems to have so much difficulties to handel a too strong leader. Some leaders could say: we work together against the strongest and the last in the list could say: I will be a vassalle of the strongest. Or something like that. I never saw such a simple reaction in my games. Is it so difficult to implement???

And for non multi-players.... What about mods e.g.?

I don't get it. If you want war just declare war. Why are you sitting around bored waiting for someone to attack you?

If you play warlord, people will not attack you much. It is obviously too easy for you so play a harder level.

There are ways to make other leaders like you on higher levels. Adopt there religion, trade with them, open borders, etc. Just because you don't know how to do that does not mean the game sucks. Just learn how to become better at diplomacy and you will enjoy the diplomatic angle at higher levels.

If you want aggressive AI, choose the Aggressive AI option.

If you're that powerful at Warlord, you're probably just playing too low a level. Go up to Noble.

All of the above. Go to Noble difficulty level, add 3-4 extra AI's, make sure Napoleon, Isabella, and Montezuma are all there, play on a map setting where you are all together, Pangea or Highlands, and turn on Aggressive AI. Have fun.

I find that there's a simple trick to resolve this situation. When you're bored, have plenty of troops, and want to get involved in a war, here's what you do:

Declare war.

Bonus: you get to pick which opponent.

Wodan

I have a related concern. Not only does nobody attack me, but they do not even attack each other, and this was with the Aggressive option on. Is the AI more aggressive in Warlords?

How many games have you played? Is all this based off a single experience?

Hmm...I'm guessing your map is loaded with peaceniks like Gandhi or Mansa Musa.

Play a game with some of the leaders mentioned above on Noble. Isabella, Napoleon, and Montezuma are all great picks, but don't leave out Alexander. He was the first leader to arbitrarily attack me, and has done so ever since. Shaka fights like a rabid dog too, so let him in on the fun.

I agree, it's got to be the level of difficulty.

It's a pity that you have been playing Civ since the first edition and can still only manage Warlord as a challenge. Don't you find it too easy???

The complexities to the game unravel as you trudge deeper into the higher difficulties.

My problem is perhaps not that they don't attack me, but rather that they don't attack each other. This is based on Japan, Prince difficulty, AI Aggressive, Earth18civs map. I first really noticed this now, but still I feel that in general the AI in Civ IV is more benign than in the older games.

Once I uncovered the European continent, the European civs were all sitting pretty, and hadn't had a single war amongst themselves, of course the way that scenario is set up, you only have Alexander, and maybe Julius, in Europe who's aggressive. A peaceful Europe, imagine that happening in real life! I have been rather active in warmongering, but even after I make peace with my targets, they almost seem eager to be my best friend. I think I'll go and buy warlords just to get Shaka then! :)

(BTW. Draino, if you're referring to my settings, I put down Warlord on them all just as a temporary stopgap, cause I couldn't remember what settings I had on each when I played them last, and didn't want to guess and maybe make myself out to be a better player than I am. Been really busy lately, I've yet to fix that. Oh, and I've upgraded to Prince in Civ IV, even if I have only managed second place so far in five games. Better go update my profile.)

Hah! My current game is a noble-level game with Aggressive AI, and the only civ who keeps picking on me is Mansa! The peace-loving bastard!

But I've had Agg AI games where wars were limited until the industrial age, and even then it was just a couple wars.

Regarding the Earth18Civ senario ... I tried it once, had to stop because each turn was taking FOREVER once I discovered Europe. But I noticed weirdness on the map there. Izzy had just one city (Madrid), but had spread her buddhism to EVERY SINGLE CIV, including the asian and african civs. They were all best friends.

My games were peaceful until I bumped up to prince and as I always only put in non-western civs, I have tons of wars. I tend to see tokugawa and asoka love to start wars especially against me. I always end up being peaceful to Cyrus, saladin and hatshepsut but not ramesses.
