No patches will install! Can't find installed game!

I have the downloaded version of Civ4 from GamersGate, but when I try and patch the game - ANY PATCH from ANY WHERE - and believe me, I've tried them all (including the Beyond the Sword expansion)- I ALWAYS get a warning that pops up and says that it can't find a copy of Civ4 on my computer. I even re-installed the game and still - no patch can find the game. It's under Program Files/Sid Meier's Civilization folder where is ought to be. All my drivers are up to date. I even have the latest version of DirectX on my system. So how do I get the patches to FIND THE GAME? Has anyone here had a similar problem and found a way to fix it? ANY help is VERY MUCH appreciated!!! I can't seem to get any info from Firaxis!

you need to get the patches from the site where you bought the game from - these digital versions require their specific patch versions...

I've been to the GamersGate site where I downloaded the game and they have no patches for Civ4. What do I do now?

search for the trymedia patch (just use the search function here) that has worked for some people with other distributions: but really: return the game - if they don't sell you a working product they violate your terms of business

I tried using the trymedia 1.74 patch but it said that there was no digital version of Cvi4 on my computer - WHEN THERE PLAINLY IS. I'm awaiting a response from GamersGate about the patches, but I'm still concerned that my CD version of BTS won't be compatible with ANY digital version. That means I'm screwed and out hard earned money.

How did all this happen? Why hasn't Take2 and Firaxis seen to it that all the digital versions out there are compatible with the CD version. The whole thing is a joke and those digital downloads should never had been allowed to exist or Firaxis and Take2 should have seen to it that this confusion was never allowed to happen. I blame Firaxis and Take 2 for all of it and I won't be buying any more games from them until THEY fix rectify this situation!

I mostly agree that this mess is caused by Take 2 (Firaxis has nothing to do with the distribution - as currently a part of Take 2 this does not make a difference, but design studios tend to change hands) - the digital distribution of this game has been mishandled. However in the end it is the responsibility of the distributor (vendor) to tell you what patch to use -so right now you can and should complain to Take 2 but GamersGate is the source that is most likely to be able to help you. As for the BtS installation: this is unfortunately unpredictable - it should work, but then again it might not. If you have problems with that please post, maybe someone here can help

Solution: GamersGate says that getting the patches for Civ4 is problematic so they are willing to give me a full refund. I'll then buy the CD version elsewhere and my problems ought to be minimized if not over entirely. Fortunately SOMEONE is willing to take responsibility. 2K Games and/or Take2 really dropped the ball on this one! THEY should be giving out the refunds not the digital services!
