Finally, we've got an official answer:

At this time we don’t have plans to release the DLL source code.

Yep, "at this time" may leave some hope, but I'm tired of waiting, and that at least one more year of waiting.

So it's been a great time, interesting stuff learned, but I'm afraid it's the end of the modding path in that direction for me...

I wish you all the best, thanks everyone, and special thanks to Firaxis, Salec and @dshirk for everything you were able to do.

That's quite sad indeed. You did a lot for the community (for free).

I understand (and share) your frustration. We have been reaching out to them for MP related questions for our tournament mods (Better Balanced Start, Better Balanced Game, Multiplayer Heper, Spectator Mod) with so far little to no feedback.

We are still hopeful they would at least provide a couple of lua function to allow tournaments to be more user friendly. Fingers Crossed.
Otherwise we might simply keep MP tournaments on GS.

Because Frontier Pass is releasing updates every couple of months, modding Civ is going to be a nightmare. Combine that with no DLL on the horizon and I don't think anyone will question your decision. Thanks for all your hard work Gedemon, you've been awesome.

You have done some great work over the years, but why go when the previous versions have great mods. I play Vox Populi for Civ 5, which is far better than crappy Civ 6.

Civ5 has its own limits (like no direct support for mods in MP) and civ4 doesn't have hexes.

Looking at OldWorld now.

Hold on a second, demon baby. We still have a couple of options and I think we're should give them a good college try.

First have we're tried petitioning them? Second: I'm interested in the course of coming content, but I'm extremely attached to modding. I'm entirely willing to threaten to not sign up for the frontier pass in protest over this decision, and I'm sure other people would threaten that too.

I have no idea how to run a successful petition, but talks about it have already circulated...

Well this news sucks. I've had every Civ game since 1 and I guess I'm done with playing it if they're going to take this route.

I have been buying civ games solely for modding purposes ever since Civilization III. I have not finished a single Civ VI game at all, not one, but bought all expansions and civ packs to be able to play Rob (R8XFT)'s Anno Domini.

There must be other people like me out there. I don't think Firaxis is sufficiently aware of the income that you modders create for them. Even just the ability to go tinkering with the game myself is worth a LOT to me. I had DLL mods for Civ 4 that I never released.

I'd be happy to join any petition and boycott to push for the release of the DLL. Both the non-release of the DLL and the announcement of a new "Civ-Pack Series" instead of a proper expansion have been a massive disappointment for me. I was hoping for new mechanics that mods can exploit and develop, now these "game modes" are the only hope left. They don't even seem to provide much new civ-specific artwork.

TO FIRAXIS: I would rather pay 40 Euro for the DLL release than for any New Frontier Pass!!!

Vox Populi for Civ 5 was a legendary project, one that made Civ 5 immortal to me. Thank you for all your work, Gedemon.
As for Firaxis: All I want to say is that they don't really care about us!

I get your decision. Saying Goodbye with hope to see you soon here again :)

The only reason I still play the game and buy all their expansions is because of the excellent mods.... especially those by Gedemon. Can't believe Firaxis doesn't realize that the game dies when modding stops. Especially since so many new features are mods they incorporated into their game.

Precisely my sentiments.

I think this is exactly the plan. Civ6 will die, so people will buy Civ7.

He doesn't mean that civ 6 will die he means civ will die.

I'd you think that putting a stiletto down his throat once will make him ask for another you've got another think coming. There are other 4X games.

Yep, at this time, there is no plan for a YnAMP, a R.E.D. or anything for civ7 from me. There are also no more plans for a total overhaul or a WWII scenario from me for civ6 either.

Maybe they are a small portion of the player's base, but some people will not buy civ7 if they know from the civ6 experience that it won't be as moddable as civ4-5, for those it's not just civ6 that will be dead, it's all future iterations unless Firaxis change its modding approach.

Personally, as I've already said, a player may have time to play multiple games, but as a modder I'll never have enough free time to mod multiple games... and I've started modding OldWorld.

I'm not a user of any of your mods but I know that you're one odd the more prolific members I'd the communit, and that losing you will be a significant blow to the modding community. If modders and people who use mods are 1% odd the community we are the most important 1%. Modding is vital and will only become more relevant as a vital organ of the gaming industry.

Firaxus would do better to stop its DLC rather than its support for modders.

Are we sure it's Firaxis that is the problem? Look at XCOM 2, one of the easiest games to mod and play with mods. They have have even hired modders in the past (Long War). I think it's a Civ 6 problem. Maybe I am being naive and optimistic but I am holding out hope that Civ 7 is a different situation.
