Hey,

I have noticed that I have had no Reagents in my last few games.
On closer inspection, I’ve noticed that this happenes when I play on Standard or smaller size maps. There are a few Reagents on Large and Huge.

Is this always the case?
How can this be fixed?
When I play on Large/Huge the turns take way too long late in the game

Thanks for any help.

As far as i know this gets better if you chose the "balanced resource" option when starting a game, although i dont know what this optin does exactly!?

In the game i just played, i played a large archipelgo (snakey continents, low water level) map with the 'gift' option checked and had zero reagents. Luckily i had the amurite hero, but still...

Are you playing with the double bonuses option (Blessings of [Something])?

Reagents are a strategic resource, which limits them to being placed atleast 4 tiles away from any other strategic resource, and they are placed last, so, if you have too many resources on the map, there is no where to place them. Try larger maps without the doubled bonuses, and you should see them.

I wish I could play on large or even huge maps, but middle late games take literally minutes to process end of turn – and I have a decent rig.

I had double bonuses checked, but even removed I still did not get Regents on the two test maps I created.

I played with the “FfH Editor.xlsm” and got some better results.
Under the “Bonus” tab, you can adjust a lot of different values.

I’m not sure exactly what effect each has and the weight of each.
Can someone please shed some light on all these factors?

What is okay to tweak slightly and what is dangerous?

You can try to change BONUSCLASS_RUSH to BONUSCLASS_GENERAL for reagent in Civ4BonusInfos.xml to remove the restriction of 4 tiles between RUSH bonuses and reagents . Or reduce the unique class range in Civ4BonusClassInfos.xml for BONUSCLASS_RUSH from 4 to 3 ( <iUnique>4</iUnique> ) .

Tcho !

You need to select balanced resources or they usually don't get placed unless the map is enormous. This is a problem for me as I typically play on "Creation" which has no balanced option.

I usually play on standard size maps. Make sure Blessings of Thingymajiggy is checked, and you select the "balanced" option under resource delegation on da left mid bottom of da screen. Ive played hemisphere, pangea, and terra maps, and before i opted for balanced resources I too never saw reagents, until I opted for "balanced".

I also use "Creation", so no balanced that I can choose.
I'll try STo's suggestions.
I'm also going to change it show it can appear on Desert tiles.
I did sost testing, and on a standard map and I get 1-3 Reagents.

Things to avoid when wanting reagents in a map.

Lots of water, fractal bites it big time.

More than default ai, six players on a tiny fractal, you're not going to see mithril half the time, forget ever seeing reagents.

My favorite map setup happens to be a tiny fractal with six players, resource settings don't matter much, you'll rarely see reagents on such a map, even with low sea level it's not very likely. I have never seen reagents at normal sea level, and I've played probably a hundred tiny fractal games.

Balanced(the map, not the resource setting) seems to be an outstanding compromise. Generally interesting maps, if not near so interesting as fractal, lots of land. My last game was a small balanced with six players, haven't even finished exploring yet and I've seen four reagents. It doesn't perform so well with the tiny six player setup, but still much better than fractal.
