No Vassal States?

I've been playing Next War, and I've noticed that "No Vassal States" is not only checked, it's greyed out (along with all other "custom game" options). How do I go about reenabling these options? I've looked in the "next war.ini" file but can't seem to find it. It would be best if I could do this without starting a new game, but I don't think that's possible.
