Nobles' Club 377: Gandhi of India

1878 AD:
Spoiler :

Like @chinemol recommended, head-first into Giggles it was :D

It took him a while to cap, but I knew Hatty was about to hit the liberation threshold and when that happened I made a cease fire with her and only then Giggles was willing to cap. I think I picked that trick up from one of Henrik's videos, if you're involved in more than one war they are more likely to believe they have a fighting chance. He even gave me Ur, which is a useless city as it's drowning in Hatty's culture.

I finished the Internet on this turn, which put me right back near the top of the tech game. From here on, I'll take out Hatty first, because she seems weak and is on her way to culture. I could continue my conquering spree after that, but Wang has nukes (he told me :p) and that could get a little messy. I think I can beat Wang in a straight-out race to space, as I am rivaling him in bpt and will surpass him once I get the labs up and switch my cities to wealth/research. Production-wise I will also be able to churn out the ship much faster, also because I have way more cities than he has. However, I will need to monitor his military activities, because he will be the only one left after Hatty and so no red fist will show when he plots. Should probably get myself some nukes for deterrence just in case.

Spoiler :
@jorassimo you are almost on the domination threshold, with a lot of cities, with built up army and navy! Nukes might kill some of your pop, but you are lacking land, not pop. Even if wiping Hatty didn't get you there, Alex will surely offer his coastal cities for the missing couple tiles for domi. Nice pounding!

@chinemol
Spoiler :

Yeah I think you're right. My Sumerian cities still have to pop their borders and that will be a good chunk of land. And then after Hatty just taking out medieval Alex in one turn while getting nuked by Wang should do it :p
Nothing like an amphibious monster stack :D

Cheesy 1911 AD diplo win:

Spoiler :

It's a bit of an anticlimax but I knew that vote was coming and I knew I had enough votes and it was less labor-intensive and messy than going to war with a nuclear power that didn't have oil :hammer2:. I did have a stack of doom waiting for Wang's coast as well as some ICBMs but didn't end op using any of that due to the aforementioned reason. Not my best score ever, just above my Sury shadow game, which was my lowest winning score so far, but I've learned so much since then. I took out all of Egypt in a couple of turns because when she was finally willing to talk, I was closing in on her last city anyway. It brought my land share to 60%, just short of the 64% necessary for Dom. I was also churning out spaceship parts but Wang would probably have beaten me to that. Anyway, it was a good game.

Looking at the history video, I saw Alex attacked Wang multiple times throughout the centuries, but Wang ended up getting the upper hand in that battle. The war between Giggles and Hatty was also pretty intense with a number of cities switching hands multiple times. Those drawn-out wars helped me a lot in a situation where I had a lot of land available but was starved for cash due to that HA rush, so that when I finally met the rest of the world, I realized I wasn't behind at all. That's probably the reason why my HA gambit succeeded. I know other people had better results with a different approach, but I felt like taking out Pacal made the game easier for me on a meta-strategic level, as semi-iso is complicated. You have to go for Astro, but also have to defend yourself from an opponent that you can't even really tell is plotting. A complex balancing act. Anyway, I hoped you guys enjoyed my take on this map, and thanks everyone who provided feeback!

It is nice to know that my gambit of having the AIs placed where they were did have the intended result RE: slowing them down due to wars/Genghis being isolated Genghis. Mostly :crazyeye:.

T109 (Immortal)
Spoiler :

In light of @AcaMetis ' thoughts, I decided to opt for the violent route and took out Pacal. It cost me a few HAs, but the result is nice. I'm teching Monarchy now because we have wine and for HR, and after that I'll head directly for Astro. The priority right now is getting some libraries out for some GP. Depending on how many I can get, I could bulb Optics and Astro. IW is also a huge priority with all of the jungle and that future gem city, and to allow Chichen Itza to breath. Lit would be nice for TGL and Calendar for the sugar and banana, but Lit is risky and I can get enough happiness with Monarchy. 8 cities probably amounts to overexpansion on what is now an isolation map, especially when I settle the gem city, but I think I have the potential for strong long-term development.

And yeah, I realize Chichen Itza needs some worker attention urgently, but I was too focused on the war to realize :hammer2:

Nice. I def considered HA rush and it's prob most effective strat on immortal to take over island. I'm going for TGL/NA/cuirs/maybe taj route and kill pacal after lib. But it means delay on Astro. Maybe I can meet others with galleys tho.
