To get an idea of what kind of participation we will be having, lets start having some nominations. You are allowed to self-nominate.

Please state the position and person(s) you wish to nominate.

There will be:

President
Domestic Advisor
Military Advisor
Foreign Advisor
Science Advisor

(In the future there will also be Governors.)

The Constitution

If there is sufficent response I will make a nomination thread for each position.

If you are nominated please Accept or Decline to nomination.

To help things along, I would suggest that when you nominate someone you also PM/e-mail them to let them know. If anyone is Unconfirmed at the end of the nomination period, they will have been considered to have declined the nomination.

I will update this post with the nominees and their status (A,D,U).

President
Dell A
Duke of Marlbrough A

Domestic Advisor
Mordhiem A
bigfatron A

Kev D

Military Advisor
Ren A
Myartar A

Foreign Advisor
civ1-addict A
heliogabalus A

kmad U

Science Advisor
duke o' york A
germanos A

I would like to nominate Dell for president.
He has been in our previous game from the beginning until the end and has done a good job as a governor and therefore I think he will be a good president.

Go on then, I will accept but I hope everyone else makes plenty of threads, so that I know what to do.

My nominations:

Kev for Domestic advisor

Duke of York for Science Minister

Civ1 Addict for Foreign advisor (Does this role include the expansion ministers job?)

Ren for Military Advisor

I would have picked a wider range of people but I'm not sure who else is up for playing.

I accept the nomination (now I'll have to find out what I should do in this job.... ).

Edit: found it in the constitution thread:
Article 3: Foreign Advisor: Makes decisions regarding Diplomatic relations such as war, peace, and treaties.

Yes, Dell for President!

My input is this, since I don't really "know" what people would like to do.... if you are interested in jobs, even in the future (but not in the first election), please feel free to simply self-nominate. Don't let the fact you are "new", a low "post count" person, can't "win" (or maybe never played) at Deity, etc. inhibit you.

IMHO, the hardest job is President, and people can take a look at the job of Kev and his fantastic writing skills in the last Demo game. He has really set the standard, and it take some "real time" to do that job well. In my opinion, you need to be willing to do a lot of writing and "neutral posting" to guide things, and know how to assimilate and use tons of info (e.g., input from "the people") when you play the turns.

That said, you need not be a Deity expert to be Pres.... writing, people, organization, and logic skills are "most" important :).

For all people (esp. those new to Demo), remember you can take a look at how prior office holders did their jobs. You can often learn whet they did best, and use that as a starting point. So don't be "afraid" of jumping right in just because you did not run for anything (or maybe not participate) in the last Demo game :).

Next: Don't be "afraid" of self-nomination, even if you think you might "lose" an election. Remember, while only one person can hold a given office at a time, there will be many more elections in the future. If you don't make your intentions known somehow (and I think this thread is a good way ;) ), how will others know what you're interested in?

If someone is afraid of self-nomination, ask one of your friends (or PM me, if you're kindof new) to nominate you. LOL, but if you wanna serve in a Democracy, you needn't be bashful about nominating yourself ;).

I don't plan to hold office, as long as enough of ya'll are available to serve. I plan to help as a general citizen, and I'm happy seeing you guys (and gals!) in office. But no matter what office you're in, you might see a long post from me giving my input to you (as John Q. Citizen), though LOL... then again, I've been known to go into the US Capital and tell Senators and Reps what I think about things (and their job), too..........

Anyway, good luck to all and to all a good night.

:)

PS, This is P3K, suitably, in my favorite form of Gov't!

From the Constitution for ease of reference by all:
Section I: Elections

Article 1: Elections will be held for the Presidency, each Council position and each Provincial Governor position.

Article 2: Terms last One month.

Article 3: There are no Term Limits.

Article 4: Only existing council members may run for the presidency. Other elections are open to all citizens. Runner-ups for department heads automatically become deputy advisors for that department. The runner up in the presidential election becomes the Vice President.

Article 5: If there are no runner-ups the new advisor can appoint a deputy. (Deputies are not a required position.)

Article 6: Five days before the end of the month nominations shall begin. Two days before the end of the month, the polls for all positions of nominated members shall be posted. On the last day of the month the winners shall be declared, and a new term shall begin on the first day of the new month.

Article 7: Self-Nomination is allowed and automatically constitutes a nomination and acceptance for the position.

Article 8: Citizens can run for a maximum of two positions but may only hold one department advisor position at a time. Citizens are allowed to serve as Advisor and Deputy Advisor in two different departments. Thus if they win 2 elections they must choose one and the runner-up of the unselected position will be declared the winner.

Article 9: Citizens can hold multiple Deputy Positions.

Note how the VP and Deputies are chosen.... they are the runner-ups in elections. Also note that you can run for more than one position.

With all the people signing up, I hope that we have 5 in primary positions, and 5 different people in the VP/deputy postions.

For Duke of Marbrough: there should be a Governor, too, right?

:)

the domestic leader is the governor of the first province. New governors will be added as the empire expands.
Ahh... I see. I hadn't realized there was not an elected governor at the very start. That answers my question about why you didn't list a Governor election at the top of the thread. :)

I should be the temporary president in the multi Civ 2 game for awhile so I should have some experience by the time this game starts.

I accept the nomination as Science Advisor and would like to invite you all to join me in my quest to have Dell crowned King of the Fanaticans by the end of his term as President! Polls to follow as soon as we have got the first turn screen. In fact, could we not have the game posted in a sticky but closed thread before we decide on all the positions? The Duke of Marlbrough could open the game and take a screenshot of the area around our settlers and tell us what the settings are but then close the thread without putting the .sav on. I assume that Smash will be giving us one of the thousands of self-made maps he has lying around, rather than building a brand new one. However, if he has put us on a one square island to start off with then interest in the game might decline. :)

And civ, I think that since we don't have a special position for exploration this game, then you will deal with the polls for which directions to send our troops and whether to pop huts etc. :goodjob:

Give Duke a chance! Kev and I don't have the power to edit posts, and I doubt I'd go round messing with Duke's posts if I did. He'll get round to it! Although I notice that so far there is only a single nomination for each position. It's tempting to stir things up a bit and nominate more people but I have no idea who would like to do what. Come on, nominate yourselves if you really want a job! :) We'd get a democratic election!

I'd love to nominate for a role but I have an unpredictable real-world job that takes me away for times at short notice - so I don't want to let anyone down.

I'd be most interested in a governorship as my first time out in one of these, but Science looks interesting too.

Well, it would seem that my post of a few days ago "didn't take".

In that post, I requested a one-term hiatus from government duty as I was a bit burned out. I would love to see someone new jump in and take up a position, and with this in mind, I'll make two nominations:

1. Mordhiem for the position of Domestic Advisor
2. bigfatron for the position of Domestic Advisor

Yes, it's true, two people for the same position. The DA's position in the beginning of the game is essentially that of the governor for our first few cities and also the regular domestic choices such as city placements, tax/sci/lux slider positioning, and any trade.

You should both get involved. The election will then produce the Domestic Advisor and the Deputy Domestic Advisor who would take over should the DA not be around (or on a business trip at short notice :))

Remember, you won't be responsible for making the decisions, per se, you'd be basically directing discussions on all of these matters. It should be no problems! Also, our constitution states that in order to be president, you must have held a position in the cabinet. A good stepping stone for those who might have higher aspirations.... :)

I'll PM the guide that you sent me about the Domestic Advisor's duties to the tow you have suggested as candidates. That'll give them a better idea of what they have to do. :goodjob:
I can see that city placement will be a point of much discussion though! :D

[edit]: Rats! I managed to delete the message! Er, sorry chaps but I can't send you Kev's guidelines at the moment. :(

I support all that have been named on top of the thread and that have accepted.

I am fully for the democracy, but currently we do have a slight Despotism at our hands. This will last for a millenium or so.

I ask of the Science Advisor to make sure ALL research will be focused on Monarchy, and emediately thereafter to Republic. This will assure the democratic princples of our nation.
The appointed Science Advisor will have to support this goal offcourse.

The first true elections can be held under the reign of a enlightend Monarch.
