Can we *please* run the elections longer than just the weekend? I don't generally check in here over the weekend as I do all my surfing on the T1 line at work :D Actually, if in general ALL polls would include at least one work day it would make me happier (for whatever that's worth   )

I'm similar to you, Leowind. Although I can go online from home, I'm usually out and about on the weekends. I think that duke o' york is pretty much a weekday guy as well. I've always been a proponent of including weekdays. This is why I suggested starting the elections on Friday and finishing them at the end of Monday. You'd have all day Friday and Monday (depending on time differences and the like) to cast your vote.

Then, on Tuesday, our new leadership can start posting things for us to deal with. Fun, fun, fun.

Going for pres, eh? Oh your not...So if someone specifically says they want to be a deputy does that mean that we don't have a poll since it would be a waste of time. Btw Kev has started a thread for campain talk.

Yes, a poll is still needed. Anytime there is more than one person running for a position a poll will be held for the election.

Just becasue I would only want to be deputy, doesn't mean everyone has to agree. They still get the choice to vote for who they want to handle each position.

Damn now I have some competition...Vote for me...vote for me...vote for me... It still seems a bit strange to run a poll when one person is running to be the deputy. So are the election threads being started on Friday?

Yes - as soon as I can get round to it on Friday morning. Should be about 9am GMT (do your own sums people round the world :)) and hopefully they will be done on Monday evening.
I proposed to Duke that I do the elections, apart from the one I'm standing in. I haven't actually got the power to edit polls like the mods have, but I don't want to seem to be unfairly influencing the result. Well, apart from voting for germanos. :)

Can you hold two positions in the cabinet at once?

You can hold two cabinet positions at once if indeed necessary, but it is not desirable. I would suggest that later in the game it will be fine to play as both a cabinet minister and a provincial governor but for the time being then one person for each position would be best. You may find yourself with two roles if you are serving as the deputy for another minister as well as your ministry and they are absent for one reason or another but this shouldn't happen too often.

On that note, can I just ask that if people are going away on holiday or something then please give the rest of us fair warning so that the game isn't held up by waiting for a department's report when the minister is away. Send your deputy a PM and ask them to take control of the ministry in question while you will be away. :D

FWIW, all the details are in the Constitution. I took a look at the Civ 3 Democracy game, and noticed they often have one person doing 2 jobs (in past terms), typically a Minister job and Deputy Minister in another dept.

However, I'm really hopeful that with all the interest and citizens that have signed up, that we'll have a diverse group of elected officials :) :)..

I nominate heliogabalus for the foreign minister as he has shown an interest in the position.

Hello all.

As I am the horseman waiting to join your civilization in my comfy hut to the east, I nominate myself for a position in the exploration department. That would be the post of "foreign advisor", I s'pose. I'd be happy with the deputyship. But should the people choose me for the big one, I would take the challenge...

heliogabalus

I also nominate heliogabalus for the foreign minister (albeit delayed, LOL ;) ).

Good luck to all nominees, and have at it in the Campaign Thread :D.
