I've made a good Rules edit, replacing Communism with Fundamentalism, in the style of Islamic Fundamentalism. A simple change, not too deep (I'm new at this) but for the life of me, I don't want to go to all the trouble to make a realistic map if I can't specify where the Civs start! But I'd really like to try this out using a historicly accurate map!

I've tried downloading the mods, but I can't open the file type. I'm using just the basic, CD of Civ3. So,

In Editor, you can specify a square to be a "Player Start" but you can't specify WHICH Civ starts at that square! Can this be done? And if so, HOW??

Thanks in advance, and if this is a repeat of someone else's FAQ, I apolagize, but I couldn't see such in my search of the Forums... :king:

Thank you very much, GA. That was a great link, with lots of good help. D'oh! Right-click! I shoulda tried it...

mmm-gl-gl-gl-gl...mmmm...ts! AAAAAAAHH!! Crisp! (hack caff!!)

except one big thing. When I right-click any square (player start or just terrain) I get a menu that includes only "grid". Nothing else. If I click on grid,
the squares are shown, and if I right-click on it again, the menu I get is
"grid-clear grid-delete player start". I don't see the same menu as in the link you gave.

One thing: I'm using ONLY the CIV3 cd, with no patches, expansion packs or anything. And I'm such a pathetic noob at this that I don't even know what "PTW" means. What does PTW mean, anyway?

Any of you vets know whether the link Ginger Ale gives is useful in an expansion pack? It apparently can't be used in the basic Civ3. I'd be willing to buy an expansion if I knew I could use this feature. Or is it just some kind of glitch in my system like a speck of dust on my cd????

OK. I downloaded the latest CIV3 patch, installed it. It looks very
promising. New features, etc. I test out the starting locations method
GA provided in the link.

R-click square, menu shows Tile Properties, click "Starting Location" OK.
R-click starting square, menu is greyed out. "Set Tile Owner" menu has
"None" ticked, and the three drop-downs below it are greyed out.

I fished around the menus, but haven't bee able to get this menu to be
changeable. What is the toggle for allowing me to specify the Civilization
at a starting location? Is there anyone here who knows how it can be done
with CIV3? It sounds to me like it's an expansion pack feature... dang.

A shameless display of capitalism. I very reluctantly applaud it. I got tired of fishing around all the settings, so I bought the Complete Edition, and it like... woa... it like totally rolls!! ;)

hawhaw. Well, no really. It's features look really impressive. I tried the editor, and set player startup positions, just like GingerAle's link suggests... It works. I haven't had time to try out all the possibilities, but buh-frikking-leave-you-me, it looks like you can basicly make your own game, then play! A dream come true! I feel kinda like a heroin junkie who just found a suitcase full of smack on a Central Park bench!
