So I just got CIV V. I downloaded a Europe map as I like playing as England and being separated by sea from the other civs. Anyway, it turns out Russia has Moscow right next to my City. What's happening. Can anyone recommend a working one?

You probably downloaded a map that looks like Europe, put doesn't place capitals in their real-world locations. Did you start off in England?

I was still trying to figure that out And then I bumped into Russia, so I quit. I have messed up 4-5 times now. The first few was because of Citys owned by the AI. I figured how to turn them off.

what are you actually trying to play? You can't play a single-player 1 civ game only, Civ 5 doesn't support that (and believe me it would be boring). So you have to play against an AI unless you play Hotseat/Multiplayer.

The built in maps from explorers don't place civs in the historic locations. You'll need a mod if you want that.

1) Download mod with map
2) Enable the mod
3) Choose the map in settings
4) MAKE SURE YOU ENABLED OPTION "LOAD SCENARIO" IN THE MAIN SETTINGS SCREEN (not advanced ones!)

Really many people had this problem, including me :D If you don't load scenario but simply choose true start locations map, the map is used but civs are simply randomly sent to starting positions - when you load scenario, you load all civilisations with their settlers on "historical" starts ;)
