The Master System rocked. When I was that age, everyone had a NES. I couldn't understand that, because the MAster System games were sooo much better. Then there was the Mega Drive (Genesis)...sooo much better than the later SNES. Never got the Saturn or the Mega CD or the 32X. Anyway, I'm feeling very nostalgic at the mo. Please, share the memories. Do you share my feelings? What were your favorite games?

The games I remember most fondly were the Alex the Kid games (I was young)

"Alex the Kid in Miracle World"
"Alex the Kid in Shinobi World"
["Lost Stars" and "High Tech World" were pretty lame]
Golden Axe
Streets of Rage
Double Dragon
Rambo III
Prince of Persia
Bubble Bobble
Outrun
Teddy Boy
Paper Boy
Shadow of the Beast
Sonic
Sonic II
Ghost House
Indiana Jones & the Last Crusade
Winter Olympics
Italia 90
Pitfighter

Sega Mega Drive/Genesis I was most fond of:

The Story of Thor
Sword of Vermillion
Megalomania
Powermonger
The Sonic games
Centurion: Defender of Rome
Fantasia - I loved it - it was sooo atmospheric
Virtua Racing
The Fifa games, of course!
John Madden Football

Then there's that 4 level Terminator (I) game. Can't remember it it was Mega Drive or Master System though...

Sega died from consistently bad timing for their system releases. They're games were OK though, which is why they are still in taht buisness.

you know... Centurion defender of Rome is now "abadonware"- you can leagally download it of the internet now- i have it, but I forget where I got it from though :(

Sega had horrible marketing. Sega CD was an awful mistake, Saturn was underrated and undersold, and Dreamcast got killed by the PS2 hype. Now they've gone third party, and they're making money again :p

No way. The Genesis sucked, and paled in comparison to the superior SNES. The only advantage that Genesis had was that it came out bout a year and a half before SNES, securing a market for its crappy games. Any comparison between games that appeared on both systems (except for MK1, which was superior on Genesis simply because of Nintendo's censorship) easily dhows that the SNES was superior. Compare Mortal Kombat 2 for both systems.

Besides, SNES had the Final Fantasys, Legend of Zelda, Mario, Metroid, Castelvania, F-Zero, Mega Man, Donkey Kong, etc. Compare that to the two premier Sega Only series, Phantasy Star and Sonic. SNES was technologically superior and had better games. The dominance is further proven by the fact that the SNES, though beaten to the market by almost 2 years, won the battle of the systems, eclipsing total Genesis sales by 1993. SNES was the highpoint of Nintendo, a highmark unchallenged until the introduction of the Playstation.

I liked my Sega CD. That Sonic game had great music and graphics for its time. It's music is still very good!

I do miss the Genesis. I have a Genesis plus Sega CD system that is inside an old Laser Disc player that's hooked up to the big TV downstairs. It's been a while since I played it, though. I last played Toejam & Earl I and Mutant League Hockey on that system.

NFL '95 was great too, but I never understood A. Pierce of the Giants being a super running back. That guy had blazing speed in the game!

Sonic games rocked, of course. Why, being a Sonic fan led me to the premier fansite The Sonic Foundation and thusly, the net. So that's one thing Sega was good for. ;)

There's some individual games on the Genesis worth mentioning. Ninja Turtles Tournament Fighters was excellent, and Street Fighter: Champion Edition one-uped Nintendo's SF2 in fact. Sonic CD was wonderful; it's just sad it's never been re-released anywhere else but the Sega CD/PC. :(

Prolly not what you were looking for exactly Cal, but...

I bought my Genesis. I bought my Sega CD. I was disappointed with both and then Sega quickly dropped the customers that had payed them hard earned money to drop the systems and come out with another inferior product. Sure they released their new systems first, but they were inferior and soon obsolete. It continued with Saturn and Dreamcast. As I said in a thread in All Other Games about consoles, I feel personally slighted and that carries overe to this day with Sega's sports games. EA Sports is lacking lately, at least in the NHL titles, but Sega can kiss my Malibooty. I threw enough cash away on them. NO MO'.

Saturn was a pretty good system if you went out and picked the better titles. It's main problems were marketing and not enough quality title support.

Wasn't that a common problem with Sega in general though? Argh they pissed me off but good. So when Nintendo and eventually PS started outselling them, they gave up on that console and the people who bought them had 4 good games and no future to look forward to. Repeat process with next Sega console.

Well, I had double-digit numbers in Saturn games and I was happy with all of them (about 15-20 games). Never got a Dreamcast, so I don't know. Genesis had a lot of good games. I think it was Sega losing market share as a hardware company after Sega CD....declining until it went to software-only.

I think that 'software-only' is the best decision they ever made. Maybe someday my bitterness will fade and I will give one of their games a shot......

Never did own a Sega. I tended to prefer the SNES because it had some really good games. Mario, Zelda, and a slew of excellent RPGs.

If you do find yourself giving it a shot (although highly unlikely :p ), try going to a local arcade (do they even exist anymore?) and look for F-Zero AX. It's made by Sega, but it feels like it's one of the classic Nintendo first parties. OR you could get a cube and buy F-Zero GX... :mischief:

Golden Axe and Prince do bring back memories ;)

Phantasy star 2 was awsome, i bought a used Phantassy star game, so i had no map, no book. The maze were the best i ever saw, it was hard, especialy on Dezo. IT remember me the Nei weapon.

I had lots of fun also with desert strike, jungle strike: chopter game.

Buck rodger was also a good game, and Shining in the darkness was a very good first person fantasy game, special effect were very good for the time.

I has lots of fun with console like nintendo and sega.
