(NOT A BUG) Unhealthiness from power bug

In the following save game of the Earth 1000AD scenario (using no mods), I found that my cities suffered the 2 :yuck: penalty for using a coal plant for power, but after building the 3 Gorges Dam, they still had that penalty. In Warlords the penalty went away once the city got a clean source of power. I also tried building a hydro plant, such as in Satlzburg (city located near Germany), but that did not remove the unhealthiness either. Even in cities with no power plants, such as Marseilles (France), there was still a 2 :yuck: penalty.

Same here. I had e.g. a coal plant and later on built a nuclear plant, but the 2 health penalty faces didn't go away (and there is no way to destroy the coal plant, is there?)

After some testing, I don't think this is a bug. "Power" (of any type) gives unhealthiness of +2. A coal plant gives an additional +2. I created a city in worldbuilder, and gave it coal, a factory and a coal plant, and unhealthiness went from +1 (1 population) to +8 (+1 for pop, +1 for factory, +2 for coal, +2 for coal plant and +2 for 'power'.) I then added the 3 gorges dam to another city. This city went from +2 unhealthiness to +4 (the addition was 'power'). However, the first city dropped from +8 to +6 (as you would expect).

As such, I conclude "Not a bug" - a design change.

It's kinda odd that power gives unhealthiness, you'd think it would be the other way around ..

Ah well, I'm not even gonna try to get into the minds of the designers...

I'm not convince it's not a bug. I played a OCC game where the city had coal within it's radius. I built a coal power plant and received the +2:yuck:

I then built the National Park which removed access to coal. I still received the +2:yuck: for power, but the benefits of the power plant where gone.

I'm getting this too. I have some cities which have no power, and correctly display no +2:yuck: from power. However, and this is what I think IS a bug, other cities have no power but are getting the +2:yuck: . I can post a save if it'd help.

Or at least, I can try to post a save, I'm rather new to the forums...

I've been experimenting in world builder, and I think I've found the problem. It has to do with the way the Three Gorges Dam is applying power. Now TGD still correctly applies the power bonus to production as a continental modifier. However, it's applying the +2:yuck: as a global modifier to ALL cities in the player's empire, even those on different landmasses.

Where it gets even stranger is that any city built after the TGD is built won't get the +2:yuck: from power even if it's on the same continent as the TGD.

I've attached the save by the way. The TGD was built in Middleburg on the main continent. The city of Breda (out on the western edge of map) is on an island, built before the TGD, and is still getting the +2:yuck:. Conversely, the city of Nina (Northwest, pretty much on border between Netherlands and Sumeria) culture flipped to me after TGD was built, and has no such problem. Neither city has its own power plant yet. Interestly if you you build a new city on the main continent, it will get power from TGD, but not the penalty.

Hope that all helps!

Here's a save.

I don't know if it's the same bug or not. The Three Gorges Dam is not involved.
The city has +25% hammers from the forge and +25% from the factory. It does not have a benefit from the coal plant (the National Park was built after the coal plant, removing access to coal and hence the power benefit). However, it does have the +2:yuck: penalty due to power.

Can a moderator please remove 'not a bug' from the thread title - there are definitely bugs here...

I've managed to duplicate the coal power bug, and found some problems with nuclear power too.

First load the attached coal power problem save. Mine the coal and use the GE to build the coal power plant in Mecca. It will correctly get +4:yuck: from power. But if you then pillage the coal mine, Mecca will lose power, but still has +2:yuck: from power.

As for nuclear power, I've found generally nuclear power plants are correctly adding +2:yuck: for power. However, in the attached save, if you build the nuclear plant and hook up the uranium, Mecca gets power, but not the +2:yuck:.
