Something that was in master of orion 2 that i found useful was the colony summary screen where you could quickly see what they were all producing and BUY them there without viewing the colony. I found this very useful and i dont believe there was anything similar in Civ 1,2 or 3.

There is something simular in all 3 Civs. I dont remember the name of the screen off hand but you can get it by pressing F1. I dont remember a buy option being there but you can see what each city is making and by right clicking on what the city is making one can change the production.

That I agree with, having a buy option in that screen would be great and would speed the game up quite a bit.

In F1 you can right-click what a city is building in order to get a list of possible builds and to be able to change it. You can also change laborers to specialists from F1 also.

Click on the little graphical heads and they should change.

It can be a bit difficult to hit the right spot where they change, but you can do it.

I know for sure you can change between different types of specialists there... not entirely sure about switching laborers to specialists. Have to test it.
