ive bought anew pc but i'm unable to play civ4, bcoz it says vista doesnt support civ4 games. can anyone help me pls.????

I have Vista and civ4 works just fine. Installing it is a PITA because Vista wants to take charge of every action. Let the program autorun and install that way. If you try to dbl-click and start the installation that way I had issues. Same with patches. I'd d/l them and then open immediately. If I waited and then simply dbl-clicked it didn't work. Wierd and annoying.

thanks woodelf, i followed ur adviced (even uninstalled it and re installed) still same results... any more suggestions????/

if you right click, one of the options is Run as administrator

Do you not get that pop up that tells you it's looking for solutions, or asks if you want to look for solutions?
..because if it does, pick no. Picking yes will make windows collect multi-gigs of info and won't give a solution except ask you to download a system stability patch. I can't say that patch has done anything here...

I... ok. They've generally worked ok for me (except my internet browser keeps crashing randomly - Mozilla here i come)

how can i get that stability patch????

Is the problem the game or the installer?

cause if it is the installer I found that most installer cannot handle the system interrupt cause by the User Account Control, which is why mine is turn off.

If it is the game, i had a little trouble with the installer over right the directx file and not putting one back.
Try properites compatiblity mode for an older windpws mode

What version are you trying to run? My laptop is running vista, and I was able to install Civ4 Gold edition fine... It just wouldn't play vanilla or WL. I installed BtS, and I was able to play it just fine. A week later, I tried to play vanilla and WL again, just to see if it would let me, and this time it I was able to. I think you have to install BtS for you to be able play the other versions... I'm not sure, that's just what happened to me...
