Hi all, I''ve been playing Civ 4 (BTS) for a while now, but I'm relatively new to the online/multiplayer/modding "scene."

Basically, I don't like screwing up my install and/or filling my hard disk up with trash but I want to get to know the game well and work up to multiplayer standard, so what are the best/most widely-used mods? In other words, what should I download!?

Sorry if this has already been answered or isn't a sensible question (or both :s), but let's see...!

Depends on you
What kind of stuff do you like?
-History
-Fantasy
-SciFi
-Civilization Eras
-Graphics

Just list your interests and we'll find a mod that suits you.

Well I'd love something that just extends the game and makes it "bigger," maybe with more "futuristic" units, and is there a mod that increases the number of random events?
Also, which mods are most commonly played online?

Online, I'm not sure. I never play online Civilization. Only single and hotseat.

But RoM (Rise of Mankind) adds loads of technologies and new units. Right now the newest version is 2.62, which features many new futuristic units and techs as it is. But in 2.7, they're going to add a major expansion to the future era.

It also adds 2 bigger map sizes (only recommended for high-performance computers) and 2 new game speeds; one being Snail.

So check out these threads and pick one that sounds right for you:
-RoM
-Next War Advanced
-WolfRev (I've never played WolfRev but I think it expands a lot on the industrial era)
