Now what's the problem? More Graphic Issues.

If I wasn't such a Civ fan I would have snapped this CD in half a long time ago.

I've been to he// and back trying to solve all my graphic issues and finally got everything working perfectly.

I was one of the "lucky" folks that had a "radeon" driver. Installing the Omega drivers and the first patch solved the black terrain and the floating heads.

Now I have a new problem after updating to 1.52 patch. All the type in the game is rough and nearly impossible to read (by all I mean the type in the menus and game play). All the rest of the graphics are fine - it's just the type. It' looks like it's "low res". Also, my curser flashes with a block behind it.

I've double checked all my video settings and uploaded my DxDiag. Also, I did run all the test which checked out 100%

You have unsupported hardware for the game. Civ IV requires Hardware T&Lsupport - ie a graphics card, which you dont have.

V1.52 placed more load on graphics cards, which you dont have, so you crashed.

Hardware specs for the game:

Well, it used to work just fine. I know I'm on the edge but I do have the minimum requirements. I checked that page before I bought the game.

Is there a way to remove the 1.52 patch? Or do I have to un-install the entire game and re-install

You do not have minimum spec

You are running IGP- not a card. The result is also a reduction in main RAM to448Mb. You do not have dedicated Video RAM, its taken from main system RAM, and you have no dedicated video processor. You will have increasing problems as time goes on aka V1.52, as they do not support the hardware you have.

I am not aware of any download site for V1.09, hopefully someone else reading this may know of one

Fine ... the inarguable fact is the game used to work perfectly before I installed the 1.52 patch with the all graphic settings set to "HIGH" on a screen resolution of 1024 x 768. It sure didn't zip along, but it worked fine enough foe me to play and enjoy.

However, when I started this thread I had been blaming the 1.52 patch for this new problem with the type - but that is not the case.

I un-installed the entire game and re-installed it. I ran the game with no patches and again with just the 1.09 patch. I both cases I still have the same problem with the type - so since the game was working fine and now is not, there must be another reason for this new problem - video related. My sister had been fiddling around with the display settings. But I cannot find what has been changed.

So, again, if anyone else can help it would be appreciated.

Did anyone else notice:
Monitor: Generic Television
Monitor Max Res: 640,480

I doubt that this is the correct adaptor for your monitor.

Right click on your desktop.
Select properties.
Go to the settings tab.
Click advanced.
Click roll back drivers or install new drivers.

It may not fix the problem but it could not hurt to have your correct monitor adaptor installed. If the maximum resoloution of your monitor really is 640x480, shoot it.

"I doubt that this is the correct adaptor for your monitor."

It's not.
ATI Radeon 9300 video card is what's in the machine which is a 2.2g mhz laptop.

I had the same problems many others did before 1.09 came out with the black terrain and floating heads. I tried updating the ATI drivers but it didn't fix the problem. I had read somewhere on these boards about people having sucess with the Omega drivers - so I installed them which did fix the problem.

Up until I posted this thread the game and the rest of the computer functioned fine. I thought this new problem was due to the 1.52 update - but it isn't. I un-installed the game and re-installed it with out the patches.

As mentioned, my sister was fiddling with the display settings - I have no idea what she did. Everything seems fine - just the type in the game is all jagged.

Mind you I am NOT talking about the video card driver I am talking about the Monitor Adaptor. In the advanced settings of the display settings go to the Monitor area. You will see that your monitor is called a geniric TV which is limiting you to 640 x 480 resoloution. Roll back THAT driver or install the correct monitor adaptor.

Again I won't say this will fix the problem but that is something that is not set correctly.

If your PC is hooked up to an old TV, (which I wouldn't think it is) stop that.

"which is limiting you to 640 x 480 resoloution. Roll back THAT driver or install the correct monitor adaptor."

I know it says that, but I swear, my screen res is 1280 x 800 w/32bit color.

When I hit the advanced tab, then hit the monitor tab it shows my monitor as a "generic tv" ... so I change it to default monitor, or plug and play okay all the way out and go back in and it's changed back to "generic tv"

I've tried rolling back the drivers, that didn't work either.

Maybe I will just shoot the flippin' thing !
