I was playing as the Americans and reached the 1940 when the Russians started to make their presence known on the leader board. I was anticipating a race of nuclear arms between us and the Russians and started to race to get the Tec rocketry, but was beat to it by the Russians. When I got the Tec, I started creating nuclear missiles in every city I had, thinking the Russians where going to do the same. But they didn’t, and later their influence fell, and they collapsed in 1982. Soon everyone else was getting rocketry, but I hadn’t seen one nuclear missile being constructed. I went into world builder to see if anyone was creating nuclear missile and found no one was. In any of your games have you seen the Russians or the Americans engage in a nuclear arms race?

I've had a couple games where nukes are used. Main AI culprits have been Germany and China in my experience.

i hate it when the AI gets many nukes (wb'd) and uses them all on one indie city. I don't think the AI understands the concept of building nukes for deterrence.

Killerkebab: Did you find out if the AI had built there missiles during a time of peace (stock pile?) or when they war?

Alexius08: Lol, I gave nukes to Russia and they did the same thing. But actually it was good to see them nuke everyone they were at war with, like they divided there nuclear stock pile between the three people they were at war with at the time. Now if only they could take it to the next level and stock pile there missiles.

I was once playing as Russia and got into a nuclear war with Germany, Spain and France - it wasn't pretty.

So I guess it can happen.

I'v seen Russia with a good few nukes before, they were nuking Europe in the west and Mongolia in the west, and basically conquered both

I've had pretty good nuclear wars with mongolia before.....there was one where i think they used about 30 or more on me as the dutch. So yeah nukes can get a bit out of control. I did manage to collapse mongols though.

Thanks for all your responses, I have now seen a small nuclear war (mostly tactical nukes) in one of my recent games. Lol, never thought I would be thankful to know that the AI use nukes. Just assumed they would, but now I know they can, so thanks everyone

Once i played as germany, and produced plenty of icbms and tac nukes in all cities to prevent wars. It was one of these games that unfortunately ended by collapse, but it was funny one, because right after my empire collapsed all "my" nukes was launched by independent cities causing little nuclear holocaust :) They also whipped out my new capital - total check mate.

I usually just nuke someone if I'm mad at them.

Although once I had a nuclear war and believe it or not I was Ethiopia and I was playing some turns after the victory, so me and Russia got in a nuclear war, and then the US and Germany passed us both in score.

Yeah well, i'm using nukes only to scare off the enemies, nuclear war sucks, and after first nuke there is global warming, which sucks even more, because your beautiful cities will start starving etc...

If someone declares war on me I usually nuke all their cities. :)

I've seen Russia a lot of times, but they always nuke the indies in Germany(who inevitably collapses by the late game) and then go conquer Germany and then collapse themselves, which leads to a ton of indie cities, some of them with nukes. Then the indies go nuke and invade others, resulting in wide-scale pandemonium.
