Just won an extremely funny game.
Game setup was next: Alexander, Deity, Donut, Small.
I've started regular Alexander campaign and conqured half of the map. At that moment I decided game is done, so to hurry win production I stopped war and beelined diplomatic victory.
The thing I missed was the fact that leftover Darius and Babylon king with unpronounceable name wouldn't stop acquiring city states. So at first vote I found myself with only 7 votes out of 9 required.
So I put all leftover units in reckless strike against closest city states in order to liberate them, but got only one and was overwhelmed under the walls of Ragusa.
With pity few artillery and 1 infantry left I wanted to concede as every my unit coming a bit close to closest city-state was destroyed by fighters and Darius' artillery.
But suddenly I realized I haven't researched nukes yet. So after few turns I find out that I have 2 sexy uranium veins, spent all money and hammers on 6 or 7 atomic bombs, boiled everything around pity Ragusa and moved in last mechanized infantry (which captured the city with 1 hp left to increase drama
).
Ragusa was happy to throw down Darius tyranny even in the middle of heavy fallout.
Voila, I win, I thought. Not yet, as Babylon woke up and bribed 2 city states to his side. He has about 10k gold so I hardly would be able to stop this. So only option I have was bribe them back with few gold left after nuclear craziness and ... declare was on Babylon.
The only thing left was survive 2 turns till next vote while massive armies bashed me from 2 directions.
At this point AI decided to win at all costs and used a bug!
Darius bribed both liberated city states while being in war with me!!!
Doh, luckily proud liberated city-states elders had honor and still voted for me at U.N. even being allied with Darius.
Eha-ha, finally 9 votes and win!
