The Nuclear weapons are not worth building, if you use them, the entire wold declares war on you, even your allies and even if it was the sleezebag you nuked that started the war in the first place.

That is why you should never bother building them, at least not if you play on a high level(I play on emporer). And besides, for the shields you used on the nuke, you could build ca. 5-6 modern armor which would do you more good.

Have any of you ever felt that you have been successful with nuclear weapons?

I agree with you 100%.

The random and profligate use of nukes is also unreal.

Besides that, I would NEVER use them without a Quick Response option to an enemy First Strike. This is something we all wanted after Civ 2 and discussed it for years. Firaxis ignored all those requests.

I turned the Manhattan Project into an Internet Wonder, that in the mod I left on the Mods forum.

When enemy nukes you, you keep your nueks (they are not destoryed).
So you can do quick response.
And you WON'T get reputation hit for second strike.

And nukes are excellent for cutting enemy resources, or preventing enemy Space Ship program.

Tip: Make allies (MPP). They WON'T condemn you when using nukes.

I personnally find it perfectly normal that the whole world shout and hate you for using nuclear weapons the first. The only thing that bother me with nukes is that they are underpowered, and the strange way of them affecting a city : why half the population ? I would think that a fixed number of pop points would be better, let's say 5 or 10 point for each nuke. This would allow to raze cities with nuclear bombing, which was prevented on a design basis, but removed much of the "pleasure" to use this kind of weapons.

yeah, nukes should do more damage.

If I drop a nuke on a size 2 city (not that I'd do that, those suckers are too expensive to waste on tiny cities!) that city should be GONE..

I used nukes pretty well in my conquest of the Germans in my last game. Of course I also made use of ROP treaty breaking cheesiness.. (do you all consider that cheating?)

nukes have their place.
on higher difficulties (emperor/deity) it is a very effective way of
subotaging spaceship programs or softening an empire for attack
when they have mech inf and mordern armor.
i consistently use them in my game but only after i built the SDI
otherwise
doing first strike without SDI is suicidal in a world where two or three other civs have a combined arsenal of 15-20 nukes.

never posted a screen before so let me try this....

alright, that's from one of my emperor games...i'm the persians in light green and the romans are rebuilding their spaceship after i destroyed the first time. i was involved in 2 other wars at the time so i really couldn't spare the troops so i sent in 2 transports of MA to raze the capital when they had only 1-2 components to go. they moved their capital and quickly rebuilt the parts and the only way of stopping them was to nuke every city and have a force to move in immediately and roll over them.
