What's the general consequences of using nukes against non-civilization units? Or blowing some atoll? Do I get bad relations then too?

Is the standard civ AI going to give in for peace demands more easily if you use nukes?

Will the AI build nukes and use them first?

You can nuke land that isn't owned while not even at war without any consequences from the AI. And you can nuke the barbarians without consequence too.

The AI will build nukes and use them first.

in vanilla the AI never ever used to use nukes on the player. they do in BtS for sure, and they might now in vanilla with the new patch i'm not sure.

i don't know how they feel if you nuke barbs, but they get really ticked if you use nuke on their own territory/troops, and they hold a grudge if you nuke their friends. i don't know if they're more likely to give in to peace demands, but you sure end up with a bigger negative on the diplo screen than you otherwise would. unless of course they don't survive and thus fall off the diplo screen.

So, nuclear war is inevitable if the UN doesn't vote stop it? Will they be more likely to vote to stop nukes if nukes have been used already?

Will countr(ies) with the greatest prod. come out as winners in a nuclear war.

oh i didn't mean "they do in BtS for sure" as in every game! just that now they've fixed that bug, so monty (and the rest) knows where to find the launch codes, assuming he's still alive and in the tech race at that point ;). i haven't had any BtS games last that long yet. i've read some post from folks who have seen nukes flying, and more posts from people who've had nuke-free games.

i guess in BtS you can defy the no-nukes UN resolution, hmmz. even if that vote passes tho, it doesn't stop you from using nukes. it makes it impossible to build them. if anybody made a stash before the vote, that stash can still be dropped on whoever they think deserves it

I read somewhere here that the stashed nukes couldn't be used anyway I think.

The resolution is supposed to stop you building more, not using the ones you have, but the one time that was relevant I wasn't able to use them either. This is a big bug in my book, though it does mean the UN is a way to prevent Monty and co from destroying the planet.

You left Monty in the modern era?
Restart your game and try it again!
You don't leave Monty alive that long!

Nuking Barbarians is fun, yet pointless. I also like nuclear testing in the ocean. It's also fun

i was able to, but it was way back when, so who knows what all's been patched since then. sorry if my info's out of date!

Ok, I currently have a 500p lead so I think I might risk it a bit by stashing up nukes. Then I'll see what will happen if that nuke ban is passed.

I ask because I want to clear a barbarian island on the other side of the planet, from potential risks for another player. Turned out it would be much cheaper to nuke from a distance. And of course it's always nice to show off / warn other human players too ;)
