The thing is, the political debate makes it sound like conservatives who are against activism don't believe humans are affecting the climate or dont believe that theres global warming. Very few people actually believe this. The argument is about whether any impact humans are having is catastrophic and calls for alarmism. There's more than one factor in the increase in temperature, humans being only one, and taking that in consideration with the fact that the temperature is still increasing only very minimally, it may not be possible to say that the world is headed for destruction and we need massive new programs to change things.
There are a lot of areas regarding the environment that we have political consensus on, and we would do a lot better to move forward on these, than focus on the areas we don't, because implementing actuable policies little by little will prove do do much more than people think. The areas we don't have consensus on we don't, because there is vagueness in interpreting climate science.
