I was having CTD and bluescreen issues and the rollback did not seem to work for me.

Vid: ASUS v8440 (nvidia GeForce 4Ti)
2Ghz P4
512 RAM

After running tests with ASUS's PC Probe program, I realized that my setup did not have enough power to solidly run the video card. The +3.3V setting was running under +2.8V when playing CIV. My guess is that the game is just big on graphics and CPU and that's why I didn't notice problems elsewhere.

Short term solution: Unplug the floppy drive (if I need it I can reattach it easily enough)
Long term solution: Get a new power supply.

After unplugging the floppy drive, it's consistently at +3.1V while running civ and I've had no problems in 6+ hours of play.

If none of the aforementioned solutions have worked for you, then try and get a hardware monitor that can let you know what your voltage levels are. My BIOS also gives these readings (ASUS P4S5333 motherboard). This problem is especially likely to occur if you've recently added a new drive, pci card or other upgrade.

Note: I have rolled back drivers so this solution may or may not work for those trying to avoid CTD with new drivers. Make sure you know that the voltage is too low before you start tinkering inside your computer.

I have dial up with no possiblity of getting anything faster. Is it possible to download patches and drivers from a different location and put it on cd to bring home and install? Many thanks for any help.

I've got a weird problem.

My product specifications are:

Athlon XP1900+ 1.60 GHz / 266
Chipset VIA KT 266
Bus frequency 266 MHz
256 MB DDR PC2100/PC1600 2 DIMM Slots Maximum: 1 GB
60 GB Ultra DMA Hard Disk Drive
DVD-ROM 16x
CD-RW 16x8x40x Rewriteable Drive
GeForce2-MX400 64MB SDR
Creative Audio
Microsoft(R) Windows XP Home Edition Service pack 2
Direct x9.0c

My problem is:

I rebooted my computer, got civ4 with the newest patch and it works just fine until I get to choose a leader. Just once I had the joy of playing for a half an hour on a tiny map before my comp automaticly restarts.
I got the 71.89 drivers and started up the game. The intro movies were alright but at the menu the whole screen showed green and black flashes. When I change the screen resolution sometimes it does show but still with glitches. It's strange, the game is running fine, but the images are all glitched.

I bought a Geforce FX 5200 x/td but after the intro screen it just went black. and I tried all the drivers on that. I tried other games on it and got the same response. Went back with the card and they said they are gonna test it and see whats wrong with it.

Strange thing is:

When I reset my drivers back to the old ones dated 2001 the game shows perfectly smooth, but crashes when the map loads. But with the new drivers the screen goes crazy.

I honestly have no idea. Don't have a high budget so I guess I'll have to save up until I can upgrade my comp or something.

neither this fix nor any other will solve my ctd problems. attached is my dxdiag if anyone could take a look, i'd greatly appreciate any help.

Just wanted to add a happy note--the 71.89 driver update solved my own BSOD problem. I have a 2 GHz Pentium 4, 1 Gb of RAM, and a GeForce 3 card. Every time a wonder movie came up (and I'm still playing at Settler, so I'm seeing a LOT of wonder movies) I'd end up staring at a blue screen. But since I loaded the 71.89 driver, that problem has vanished. Things are not 100% hunky-dory, but I have a four-year old video card and an eight-year-old monitor, so I can't blame the game for that. At least now I can play for an hour without having to worry about crashes.

That is most unfortunate as I need the latest drivers for some other games I play. :(

I have a Geforce FX

The game slows down the graphics get dark and it crawls. I called teh support line and tehy told me to update my drivers. I went to the NVIDIA site to this and there isn't an update for this driver...

...anyone know where I can updte this driver at?

Hello all...

Just whant to relate some facts ...
1st

A8N SLI Delue +3200
XFX 6600 GT 128 DDRIII
2000 Gb DDR
etc...

2nd

Zepto 6214W
Core Duo t2400 - 1.83 Ghz
Geforce GO 7600 512 DDRII
2000 Gb DDRII
etc...

In both situations I can't play the game for 1/2 hour.

In the 1st - usual problem, after some minutes PC freeze's I’ll try the drivers downgrade and I’ll post the results (it looks logic to me)

In the 2nd – strange vectors start to appear and the game becomes unplayable. In nVIDIA site I can't find a single driver signed to the Go 7600 GPU... ?!?!?! The GO 7xxx drivers only work with 7800 and 7900 ... the general drivers don't mention the Go 7600.

I realy don’t know if the problem is from Firaxis or from nVidia… but one thing I can tell you … those 2 machines were the first I’v bought with nVIDIA graphics… and for sure it will be the LAST ...

A little of HISTORY

Talking about the 25 th birthday of the PC … during 25 years we developed something called the COMPATIBLE computers… I think this era is finished

Hehehe ...

At least now it doesn't crash the Pc... it just go back to Desktop closing the game...

Another thing nForce boards are also a big s....

A supposed fine tuning configuration becomes a crap... next time i'll by a DELL

thanks War X ..looks like this has solved part of my problem Ie why the game crashed in the first place..

have already installed those drivers for my Nvidia Geeforce FX 5500.so it should do the trick provided i can get past this @!@#*@* invalid page fault error....see my thread.

realy this game is soooo badly coded

I had the 78.01 driver

Edit: nope, just crashed last night. It's better now, but it still crashes after 4 hours. And that is with graphics set to "Low."

Grr.

You can try and set graphics to high. I crash (freezing!) on low settings (Geforce 6600GT) while I can play fine with settings high (AA off) (single unit graphics)

This didn't worked for me, i've got an Nvidia 7600GT. I can't install the drivers you say, because is a version older that the GPU. I've tried also, playing on low details, no sound, setframe=30, no videos, no tech splash screens...nothing worked. I can play the game fine, until i reach the Industrial Era. When i do, i play an average of 6 turns before the game crash(black screen, monitor with no signal). I've got other games, no other does this... :( :(

Thanks for the suggestion; I switched to the 71.89 version and it is working now. I had just about given up playing Warlords. Thanks a lot.

By the way - I have a geforce4 MX internal GPU.

OK all, I have fought this for days, im about ready to take a shot gun to my system. first off I should have left well alone.. My system was running fine, but I decided to update to the latest video drivers because CIV4 was displaying some weird artifacts. That is when all hell broke loose, Now all I get is BSOD time and time again.
mostly for NV4_Disp.dll. I have removed the newer driver and used the nvidia driver removal tool. I have checked and made sure Im at the latest bios rev.; chipset rev and Windows XP fixes. I have installed the drivers that came with my video card they are old 6xxx the one that seemed to work best was 71.89 but even that one now BSOD my system. I get BSOD machine checks, BSOD disp issues, BSOD stop errors, and even BSOD i have never seen like BSOD Buffer out code..... ALL BECAUSE of installing the latest video driver.. now just so you know the latest video driver would not allow me to play Civ4, COD2, etc... I saw no splash screens or MENUS on these games.. it seems the higher i go in driver numbers the worse things get. BUT all in all Even the original drivers or one step up no longer are stable... .OUCH! i normally dont get on these things but this one has got me... XP PRO SP2, 1 Gig of RAM XMS Dual Channel, 180G HD, Gigabyte GA-K8U-939, XFX Geforce 6600GT (AGP) 128MB vid, Plextor 712A DVD burner. 400W PS.

FIXED!!!!
Ok I uninstalled the drivers again, went into safe mode and ran the removal tool, booted back up in normal mode, and canceled the XP wizard for video.. inserted my CD that came with the Vid card and installed the drivers, it was 66.81. I loaded up FEAR being that it has a DEMO/TEST mode for FPS and what I got was like 1 frame every 5 seconds.. NOT GOOD! so I installed the next available 6 series which was 66.93 ran FEAR again and then got 1 frame every 4 seconds. I then installed the first 7 series that was avail. for my card which was 71.84 just below the 71.89... WOW what a difference FEAR jumped up drastically.. to 40FPS on average. as far as CIV4 I turned the settings down, played a smaller map for over 2 and half hours with no issues. BURNED some DVD's and still STABLE! going on 4 hours of run time on the 71.84 driver. Now if I can get that 71.89 installed and be stable i will be happy. SO FAR SO GOOD.. looks like going to older drivers that were developed around your card era are best canidates.

I've also been having PC graphics crashes caused by Civ4 BTS, with an Nvidia Geforce 6x. The odd thing is that these sometimes happen after I've exited the game, but never happen if I'm using the PC for other programs and haven't run Civ at all. Weird or what?
