OB08 - Tall Poppy Syndrome

Well thankfully my dual install worked and I can load this baby up.

All looks good so I keep going. Faeryl is getting out of sight, we are probably going to have to go after her/Basium at some stage. Research is et to Mathematics as the extra movement from Engineering would be very handy.

We maraude our way to Argenteria and decide to add it to our collection.



Auric is helping out and capture two cities of Alexis'. In turn Faeryl is destroying him.

We take Acaia as well.



Well we get Sorcery!



Prespur is razed as it is swamped in vampire culture.



Stopped at Engineering and set course for Necromancy again!



I've set us up for taking Morr'ta'nar and then heading towards Dwarves tyaking/razing as we go.



Its all about grabbing points now. We lost one axe in the whole 15 turns. I haven't upgraded any axes to Champions yet, when we grab the next city, might be worth dropping to 0% for a few turns and doing so.

There are re-inforcements heading towards the front but will take a little while to get there, missionaries heading there as well.

Ooops, yeah I got it, will play after work. Didn't realize we were down to this few.

Our play is to finish off Alex and the dwarves, and probably Auric too if FV doesnt do it first.

Dain is our best bet for 3rd player, and if we can get him we'll be in a pretty good position.

After the little ones are gone we should go after FV to end with a 1/3 power split.

I'll raze for the most part, but we will need a city to upgrade and for land points.

I decide to put entropy on our second node for rust. Haste won’t speed up our cats, dance of blades is pretty weak, blur is good but not as good as rust.
Auric loses Aldworth to Dain
I spend 5 turns to throw up Heroic Epic in Vallus, will pay for itself in 10 turns.

FV loses Gigno back to Auric
I accidentally attack a Nightwatch in Dain’s land. It has his flag though so I didn’t even notice it was a HN unit. The attacker was a catapult who retreated so no harm.

Take Morrtanar from Alex with no losses.

Privateer kills one trireme, and it killed by the other, but not before he pillages the clams.
Take Gaudium from Alex with no losses.

Khazad are no longer vassals of FV. I sign peace with them for way of the wicked since we won’t be in position to attack them in 10 anyway. We are his worst enemy so he wont give us taxation for anything .

We’re starting to run low on cash so I set research down to 70, now making 31 per turn. Righteousness goes from 21 to 29.

We get a GM and the bulb is ½ of taxation, so I use him for a GA.

Auric stops trading horses, banana, pig, dye, fur, gems, and ivory to us for spirit mana, probably because he lost them himself.
Dain will gives us gems and horses and 6 gold for spirit.
Auric gives us pigs and dye and 8 gold for iron.
Auric loses Lakis to Basium.

Building summer Palace in Acaia (in the middle of Alex’s land) to offset high city costs.

Arg, Auric manages to sign peace with everyone who was dogpiling him. Hes now by far last in score so we will have to end him too.
Take Krinera for the loss of a zero xp chariot.

Uh oh, FV, Basium, Kandros, and Auric all declare on us… We’ve got some decent forces on FV’s border, but most of them have almost no xp. All our cities are also now unhappy and unhealthy from the loss of a lot of trade resources.
Our army in Alex’s land is pretty strong, but a bit spread thin to defend all these cities.

Yup everyone but Dain declared on us all at once. They have to have been bribed right?
 
I dont think there was any vassalizing.

We do still have 3-5 turns left on our golden age so we can swap whatever civics we need quickly, and I think its time to go crusading. Also in ~10 turns we finish research on righeouness and can make paladins and sphener (though should we consider saving sphener for player 3?)
 
Good luck. Are you aiming to switch to Auric or Dain?
 
At this point Dain, Auric is now last in score, he lost about 20 cities during my set.

Auric, Alex, and Khazad are all down to 3-5 cities and should be finished off so we dont swap to them.
 
I cant remember offhand if there are any civic changes we can make for happiness, we have 3-4 unhappy in most cities now. Crusade will help with the WW, but we dont have very much of it atm, most is just from size and wanting republic.

Might also be worth it to use the culture silder.
