Well! I'm not sure but the majority of the people here seem to hate civ 3. I don't understand why. Maybe I haven't played it enough yet cause I'm on my second game but I think it is awesome. I love the graphics and the new foreign relations are such greater than before. Now you can do the same negotiations with the computer as you could with people over the net on multiplayer in civ 2. The roads I'll admit could use much more work with clarity of the squares they're in but that is my only complaint (aside from sex of your civ rep).

Does anyone agree??

:king: A mind is a terrible thing to waste:king:

Sure. Actually, if you search carefully, you will find some "I love Civ 3" -posts here as well.

I've found almost the oposite. Most posters enjoy the game. Many have a gripe or two (or three, or four) but still have a great time playing it. There are only a handful that generally don't like it. The reason it might seem more prevalent is that many of the detractors are vociferous posters and put a "This game stinks" post in every thread.

I myself am happily addicted to the game. Yes, there are a few things that I feel could be improved (FIX THE BLOODY EDITOR, FIRAXIS!) but overall it's a superior product and money well spent.

Everyone I know personally loved the game for the first 2 to 4 weeks, but sooner or later the bugs and crappy AI and irrecoverable crashed games frustrate them to the point of disliking it. The only people I know who enjoy the game longer than a month are here.

I've never gone to the message board of the game I hate... its like some form of obsessive stalking

I don't have major problems with bugs, crappy AI, and I've never had a random crash. Maybe I'm just lucky. My biggest gripe is the long time between turns on a huge map, but I study in between turns so that isn't necessarily a bad thing.

Also, many people who enjoy the game are too busy playing it to bother with message boards. I just mess here when I'm tired of reading and my turns are going.

I wouldn't be playing the game if I hated it. I wouldn't even be discussing it.

But there are a lot of problems with Civ III, and they've been detailed on this board for many weeks by dissatisfied users.

After waiting all these years for Civ III I expected better. It was also clearly rushed to market for Christmas.

AND I EXPECT WHAT WE HAVE TO BE PATCHED. SOON.

I have never had any problem with bugs, crashes, slowness, the AI cheating, infact if i never came to this forum, i wouldn't even have known there was a patch for the game, or any need for one.

Maybe i just accept a game as a game, and play it the way it is, hard or easy, i just play it. Civ series and heroes are the only two games on the planet i ever play, I really am not a gaming person, I think CIV III is a great advancement on CIV II, the people saying CIV II is better, really are just trying to make a point, because it realistically couldn't be argued that CIV II is better. I think actually CIV II left a gretaer impression because it was so far ahead of any other game made, but still CIV III expands on that.

After saying all that, because CIV III is so much like CIV II, I am already totally bored with it, and will only play the GOTM, no other game in each month, i do find it too easy, and well i don't use this to start complaining, I LOVE CIV III, just I got bored with it very quickly, nothing bad about the game, just the way my mind works. And to be fair I get bored with any other computer game a lot quicker than this. Crossing my fingers for Hereos IV now. :goodjob:

you have to be careful to distinguish between:"This game sucks!" and "Some aspects of this game suck and distract from it`s general greartness!"

I for one love the game; it`s just that so much has been done well while other things have so obviously been rushed for X-mas.....

Same as LOTR: just that little more thoroughness and it woulnd`t only be good but great.......

I love the game, as I'm sure many others do too. Don't mind those who appear to have various objects crammed up their nether-regions, I'm sure many are just venting frustration ;)

1) I love Civ3
2) I have never been on a game forum without trolls. Famous quote :"I payed $x for this piece of _______. I want it to work or get my money back!" Found on almost EVERY game forum :)
3) I have visited a forum of a game that I trully disliked. Ghost Recon tech support forum. (If you can call it support)
4) LWC mod! Plutark is a GOD!:goodjob:

I just got my first decent PC few months ago so I practicly grew up playing on game consoles including Playstation, so I'm not really used to complain and cry for patches so it's still kinda weird to me... if you know what I mean

But as far as the Civ 3 go... great game! Not a single game is perfect but this one is just GREAT!

1 Luv

I wouldn't be here discussing the game in such detail if I didn't care about it! I was still playing Civ II right up until Civ III came out, and that is truely amazing! (And yes Cutiestar, Heroes III SOD too!) :goodjob:

Civ III is a great step up from Civ II, so if I was playing Civ II in October...you do the math!

I post for three reasons: To learn how to play the game better, to help others learn, and to encourage/inform Firaxis of things that should be improved/patched to enhance everyone's enjoyment of the game.

At the same time I agree that they rushed Civ III out the door - it isn't a polished product at all. I'm not used to the games I play requiring so much patching to fix basic game play. Things like broken air superiority should never have escaped quality control.

Maybe modern game design, enhanced AIs, complex graphics and such have gotten to a point where it's next to impossible to catch even all the big bugs before the product is shipped. I'll reserve judgement on that until I see how polished the afforementioned Heroes of Might and Magic IV and also Warcraft III look out of the box. I'm sure all three will get lots of play from me! :D

I love this game, I love this game, I love this game.
I am only on my third game (cuase all my time goes to fixing and improving the "WIFE BUG").
I love this game, I love this game, I love this game.

I've been playing CIVIII for about a month and a half and still enjoy it despite the few bugs. However, I get extremely bored with the game around the middle ages. If you're not warring there's nothing going on but building cultural improvements and waiting an ungodly amount of time for all of the AI moves. I've won several cultural victories and enjoy that aspect of the game but, for me, there's simply not enough action.
For kicks, last night I went and started a CIV II game and could not stop playing -- there's just so much going on!
Will I stop playing CIV III entirely? Of course not. But this game will die out if some serious enhancements aren't made soon.

Personally, I enjoy those periods of building, as well as LONG periods of war, depending on my mood. I don't really see how civ2 would be any different. In fact, I was usually able to get through a civ2 game without fighting anybody.

Good things come to those who wait.
