Obselete buildings

If I were to research the tech that maeks a building become obsolete and then build the building, would it not become obselete

(I have only just relised on my game as the dutch that I've started making The Temple of Artemis after I researched Polythism) and also does the culture gain remain afterwards?

You can still build the wonder and gain the culture points (as well as tourist income if applicable). You just will not get any of the other benefits of the wonder.

If you were able to make it without it ever going obselete, then it would just be another bug

You cannot start to build a GW once you know the obsolete-making tech. But you can always complete an earlier started GW. Like sealman said, you would not get the special wonder benefit, though.
In one of my miserable Sid attempts, the AI missed to start/cascade to TGL (AI civs knew education way too early) and I could build it w/o trouble from scratch...


I think completing an 'obsolete' (but expensive) wonder like ToA just for the culture/tourist bonus (respectively avoiding the AI to build it) is not worth it, better cascade to SunTu's or something if possible.
