some of them look useful but I'm not sure, right now I'm struggling to add features to the game not modify them, but it would be nice to know if they could be used if theres something usefull.

Without experimenting, there's no way to tell if the game's core code can properly interpret and use data stored in XMLs (say, Civ4's) that aren't used by Civ5 by default.

Most likely not, but who knows.

The simplest way is to look at the database. If it's loaded into the database, you can access it via lua.
