Oceanic voyage

I've notice in past games i played at the regent level that i was able to navigate my ships on ocean tiles by getting the GL or navi gation.

I used to play with v 1.07 but just downloaded 1.29 and was just
wondering if this was still possible. If it is I could get a major strategic advantage by opening up trade and establishing new cities with more resorces and luxuries. After all i dont want to lose any ships packed with settlers and pikemen. Any insight would be appreciated

no change in the rules, you can attempt to sail those across the ocean tiles but might lose them if you have not discovered navigation (or is it astronomy?)

No, it is navigation that permits it.

astronomy makes sea tiles safe, navigation ocean tiles.

Great Ligthhouse makes sea tiles safe, too.
