I'm not sure if this a vanilla thing or a RoM thing, but I've found that my gold/treasury will go down at the end of a turn about the same time when the game reports that a city will grow, when there are no more units to move. Even through my economy is making a profit of more than 100 gold per turn, for some reason a large amount of gold is taken out of the treasury despite the fact that I haven't upgraded any units and I'm pretty sure that I don't have any 'give gold per turn' deals with anyone. :S

Thanks for any advice.

When a city grows, its maintance grows, too.

Also there is the spy-option to steal (parts of) the treasury - you should try it for financing your military upgrades... ;-)

I would've thought that the city maintenance would make the profit go down rather than taking any money out of the treasury.

I might try to build some spies to do counter-espionage then. I could try spending more on espionage too, but Science normally gets dips on any spending.

Doesn't the game give a message when gold has been stolen?

Did any of your cities have a *[CITY] loves the [LEADER] day!* celebration? When that happens the city has no maintenance cost for that turn. I've discovered that in the later era's, where maintenance costs can get quite substantial, this can cause my influx of funds to the treasury to blatantly fluctuate.

Yes, you're right if gold has been stolen it usually gives a message. I think its the improvement-costs you didn't realize. A late game improvements like railroad, industry and shaft mine cost quite some gold, not to talk of tunnels etc. Even a paved road is worth 10 or 5 gold, I think so if you automated the workers you might have been confused about the consequences...

Ah yes that is it, all my automated workers building Maglevs etc across my empire.

Thanks for the help. :)
