I work in a fairly loose office environment (gaming company) and we'd like to get a Civ 4 game started. For several months now we've had a spare machine running Master Of Orion 2. It's worked out fairly well. When people get a moment, they come by the machine and do their turn. There might only be 5 turns a day because we're all busy.
But what worries me about Civ 4 is the early game. Sometimes there's nothing to do on an early turn other than move a unit or two around, sometimes nothing at all. Since there's thankfully less micromanagement, there's less to do on a turn, but this doesn't really lend itself well to Hotseat.
I suppose we have the option of playing a good chunk of the early game in simultaneous turn play with all of our own machines connnected (on a lunch break, or after office hours are over). Would it then be possible to take this game and switch it over to Hotseat play whenever desired? And switch back to simultaneous LAN play?
What do you all think? Is this the best approach for playing at the office, and is it even doable?
