Oil problem/bug - anyone solved it?

I am having a great game and am into the 1800's after wiping out the Chinese and English and most of the French on Warlord. The problem? No accessible oil anywhere!

There are splotches of oil all over the coast tiles, but you can't run a road to them and don't get them in your strategic resource list any other way. Neither myself, nor any other nation has oil in our list, and we all have refining developed.

I have seen others on this board complaing about it, but am yet to see a solution. Has anyone worked out a setting change or other fix for this apparent bug.

I have not seen this problem. That is so weird. I heard on another thread of somebody complaining about the same thing. That is too odd. I am curious how many others have encountered the same thing. I have played numerous games and have never seen this. It would totally suck. You spent countless hours on the game and now are deprived of playing with the more modern units. That totally bites.

Let us pray for a quick patch brother..I don't want to see this!

I remember reading about somebody who had as part of their modpack, increased amounts of oil due to allowing it to be in coastal squares... he increased the availability I believe, but since coastal squares generally outnumber other available squares for oil on most maps, it mgiht not be doing any good on some maps.

I havent seen any oil problems but the game im playing now has NO coal AT ALL.

well there was this one game where there was 3 oil patches on the coastline but then the Ruskies on another island had like 7 oil patches all in the middle so would that qualify as the bug?

What i did was build a city right on one of the oil patches and then bought a harbor and my oil problem atleast for the short term was solved.

Oil only exists in about 4 squares in my world, but they're all inland and useable.

Last night I saw something new. At the beginning of the turn when pop ups appear, I saw "This source of coal has been depleted".

Does a similar message appear when a new resource pops up, or do you have to look around from time to time to see new ones?

No message appears when new resources pop up, at least not in any of my games and I have noticed them popping up. I haven't had any of the oil problems yet, hopefully it will get fixed in the patch.

I've been informed when a new resource spawns within a city's radius.

yes, the message appears and says something like "a new source of [resource] has been discovered near [city]" or something like that

I believe, if a resource is depleted, a new one of the same type pops up somewhere on the map. You just have to find it. If its within your borders... U R lucky... if not... go get it!

Use ctrl+shift+m !

It was one of about 5 coals I have, so I barely blinked actually.

But yeah :) If it was my only one it would have been a very big deal!

I heard that there's a minimum of 1 instance of each strategic resource per civ in the game. So if there are 7 civs, and 7 oil, each depleted pocket will be immediately replaced.
There's also supposed to be a maximum of one of each luxury resource per side.

Saw that. I think it might have been the pre-patch mod (?) -- some pack I'd been using anyway.

At any rate, open up whatever scenario/mod pack you're using in the Civ Editor, and edit Terrain. If you check Coast, you'll probably find that Oil is enabled there. For obvious reasons, you don't want that. :D Unless, of course, someone knows how to actually access the stuff.
