Can a four year old Dell monitor keep up with the latest video cards? Im thinking of getting one for my new comp but Im not sure if it would be a waste of money.

Wouldnt a new monitor work better with a new video card, and deliver better eyecandy? Or is that a non issue?

I think the monitor is a non issue, unless the thing is like 15 years old or something.

Older monitors may not support the new higher resolutions and refresh rates that many of todays video cards can manage - but that doesn't mean your monitor will suffer any.

If you are one of the many people who likes running his/her monitor at 1024x768x32 - then you will be fine. If however you want to run your computer at higher resolutions and refresh rates, you may want to look into a new monitor.

Also, many newer monitors use a DVI input, which will deliver some better images - but that isn't a huge issue either.

Other than that - no, you will be fine with your monitor.

Glad to get that out of the way. I was wondering if I should buy a new monitor instead of a video card. Ok thanks!

I have an 6 year old moniter connected to a GeForce 4 card. ;)
got you beat, 8 years on a ATI 9800 Pro.

I bought the monitor when the Pentium II was king!!!

Monitors are one of those things you consider changing when they lose one color chanel (the "red" tends to go first), when the image is unstable or when it simply explodes.

Don't you have a manual where you can get its specifications?

As a rule of thumb: if the plug looks the same it'll be compatible.
