Hi,

I started a 12 civs game on a pangea map with prince difficulty on marathon 30 minutes ago and this is what happened:

1. I build a Scout
2. I send him scouting
3. After 4-6 rounds he finds an Old Ruin and develops to a Crossbowman or what ever that is called in the english version.
4. 5 rounds later he finds the 2nd old ruin and becomes a Rifleman (the guy after the Musketman) after approx. 12 rounds in the game...

After that I canceled the game because I would have won the game with this one unit in no time :(

Is there anybody else who encountered this sort of problem or was it sheer dumb "luck" for me?

Greetings,

TBL

You'll need three ruins. First makes him an archer, second a crossbow, third a rifle. There have been a few people who have been "lucky" enough. And since the ignore terrain ability is kept just getting him to a crossbow is very powerful. If you play on an archipelago you can get knights into mech infantry by exploring small islands.

I have only gotten two upgrades from ruins myself and that was with a warrior(making him a pikeman). Hopefully this will be patched so that units can only get one weapons upgrade. Getting rifles 3000BC is just silly.

Personally I have turned off ruins now. They are exciting in the beginning, but the bonuses are either nearly worthless(maps, revealing barb encampments) or extremely powerful(techs, upgrade). I don't miss them.

Yep, they need to balance the ruins. Maps are the worst - beyond useless, they even take out the fun of exploring the terrain...

Cheers,

Mad Hab

Nope, he only found two ruins. I am 100% sure of that because I know how shocked I was when the scout evolved to a crossbow. If that is "not possible" as you say then I maybe ran in a bug...

Well doesn't matter, I turned the runis off too now... But still they need to be fixed.

You know, if you go to the setup, you can just turn it off.

I know! le gasp and stuff.

For those who never been in the advanced setup screen...

Single Play-> Set Up Game-> Advanced Setup (located at bottom)

It can turn off ruins, turn off barbarians, choose widely diffrent map types the works.

Btw, since were on this topic. I noticed that Minuteman can't use roads (their special ability is that EVREY tile takes 1 move, they can't get bonuses from roads or rails), so now I have upgraded them up to mechenized infantry, it means that some of my (like 1/4 of my army) can't use roads! Real logistical nightmare =(
And i don't wanna replace them because most of them have +25% on rough and flat terrain + medic upgrade at the minimum.

Disable ruins in advance settings is win , if you don't want to see AI with riflemen 30 turns in . (especially on marathon )

How do you do that? It's not in an in-game menu is it?

I'd like to turn off (or down) barbarians. I hate barbarians.

Single game, setup game, then click advanced options down the bottom.

Can also turn off Barbarians.

Do you keep Promotions from a previous unit type that would otherwise be inaccessible to the new unit?

And so Scouts can upgrade then?
