Hi all!

I've been playing Civ V for the last few months. Loving the game!

However, I've noticed that the way trade is modeled leaves much to be desired.

Basically, as the game stands now, only domestic trade is modeled.

Maritime trade and land trade between other civs is completely absent.

Seems like it'd be a pretty simple fix, too.

Something like +1 :commerce: for every friendly (Open borders treaty with other civs required) foreign city connected to your capital via road would improve this.

For maritime trade, how about +1 :commerce: for every friendly port connected via a sea trade route to your coastal cities?

That would also serve to add more depth to the naval aspect of the game, which is rather bland at this point in time.

That would be nice, and improve the benefits of Open Borders.

I really liked the way it was modeled in Civ4 but apparently that was a HUGE hog of computer resources.

Good idea. Sounds like it wouldn't be too much on top of what Civ5 already processes. And since hte patch, Civ5 for me runs faster than Civ4 ever did!

I definitely wouldn't go that far, but civ 5 speed is vastly improved. And I would love the civ 4 trade routes model, or at least what the OP suggested in the former is too demanding. At the moment, there is very little reason to sign open borders, and the AI seem to DOW on you more if you do, so a nice incentive for open borders would be nice.

I know this isn't the right place, but I don't want to start a new thread about it, so has anyone actually noticed positive diplo modifiers for trading post-patch? I have been trading a lot with lots of AI and have never seen the bonus...

I've not noticed a diplo bonus either- maybe you have to trade over a long period.

Re the original thread- I agree some kind of extra incentive for open Borders would be good. I also agree the maritime aspect is a little bland in this civ- the extra 1+ gold for a friendly city connected by sea route may be a little too powerful but I agree something like that would be nice:

How about GPT of 0.5 x their capitals pop if your capitals are linked by harbour or road?

Roads are very expensive- I think this is a good touch though.

Agreed trade between countries is a staple, particularly in the modern era economies would collapse without trade partners and it would be nice to represent trade of something other than luxuries

Agreed! Some foreign trade is badly needed.

Now that you mention it, it's really odd that you can research Globalization but the civs don't actually trade with each other.

You only get the bonus when it's hugely in the AI's favour. Like giving it luxuries for free. I used it once to avoid a war. I got the bonus but got DoWed five turns later anyway. As the OP said: the trade model leaves much to be desired

They should do like : how more distance the citie has from the capital the more money you will get
Fix the i have more roud maintanance then my trade route...
