I have purchased a dell e310 and only have a pci slot for video card expansion. What are some options that i have to play civ 4? I saw a geforce 6200 for 30$ at newegg.com. Would that be adequate?

Should be, though do take the 256mb video memory option. Do check that your power supply is up to powering the card also.

Erm, 6600 and 6800 for pci? I think you mean pci express there.... And are you sure it has only PCi for expansion? If it does, you still have to make sure the card will fit, but if it can, the 6200 is prob the best you can get for PCi.

Yeah, a cheap Dell isn't going to have PCIe slots, just old PCI. I think the last card Nvidia made for those was a 5700...

Correction there, a 6200 actually ( look on newegg)

Yes, but if the OP just bought his... then its kind of a waste?

According to Dell's Tech Specs on it, it has two PCI slots, and one PCI-e slot.

one PCi-e x1 slot. He would need a x16 slot for any decent video card, plus a new power supply...

Hmm...I missed that '1x' when I looked at it.

That scurred me for a minute, I couldn't remember if I had an x1 or an x16. Fortunately, it's an x16. :whew:

Well, he can still buy cards for x1 but they're mostly quadro's and they suck for gaming..

Why the heck is Dell still using PCI?

Althoguh if you want to play old games without and emulator (and those that won't work on XP even then) that's not a bad idea if you get like, Win98.
I've got one or two games that I can no longer play :(

erm, you can't find a motherboard or computer that does not have PCI. but most modrenmotherboards have pci-e or agp on them as well. Also, lots of low end PC's just have PCI slots, no real need for a agp or pci-e card if you are sending email and surfing the web.

The Geforce FX 5700 was the last PCI video card made

It also saves costs for the manufacturers. Thats why you can buy these systems for under a thousand.
And im tired of telling you people...6200 is the last card..
