Only just realized restarting (re-rolling) changes the map type

Since when has restarting (or re-rolling, call it what you will) changed the map type away from what was originally set, please? Played a game recently as Bobby Bruce with the initial setup as 'Highlands' - got a dreadful start so re-rolled with the 'restart' option - not 'exit to main menu' - confidently expecting a Highland map again. It was only much later that I realized I had been shafted and was actually playing on the 'default' continents map.
On checking this, it seems that this is what happens every time I re-roll, but I am sure it has not always been this way. Am I going mad, or is this new behaviour on purpose, or yet another NFP bug?

I haven't seen this. I restart quite often and I don't get "continents".

That's really odd - it happens to me every single time I re-roll.
Especially noticeable if I fiddle with things like sea level, World Age etc - last time was a highlands map, rerolled as the start point was total pants and it rerolled into a map with actual oceans on it.
It is definitely not working correctly - Steam PC

Try this - start a new map as Highlands without changing sea level etc. Restart it and do "reveal all". I tried this (Steam PC) and the new map was definitely highlands.

Yes, that does work - but you have proved my point for me that it is bugged.
Restart should use the same settings, and not reset anything - otherwise what is the point of it even being there, if I have to revert to Main Menu to get the same settings?

OK, I tried something different. Highlands again, but changed the temperature and rainfall (there is no sea level or world age for Highlands). Restarted and the map was still Highlands. Started again with archipelago and changing sea level and world age. Restarted - no problems.

That is truly bizarre - I swear I have started on Highlands, and restart gave me Continents - there were big oceans!
I have also started with Continents/Islands, low sea level & new age & ended up with defaults on regular continents.

Maybe it is time to completely uninstall & reinstall everything from scratch after wiping the game out of my entire system.

I'm not expert on the map scripts, but doesn't a highlands map have the potential for oceans?
