Am I the only one feeling like the Civ count is getting in the way of replayability?

1. DLC packs have exactly the same price as in Civ5 or Civ6 - $5 per piece. Nothing changed here regardless of the increased base game cost.
2. If you look at Civ6 New Frontier pack, it's sold for $40 (for 8 civs + 1 leader), which is the same price as Gathering Storm and more than Rise and Fall's current price of $30.

So, I expect it to be the same with Civ7. Probably expansions will be sold for $40.
I don’t think you’re calculating this correctly as leaders in VI were included with civs.

I don't think there's a really fair way to calculate it.

You can make the point that it should be $20 for 4 civs and the leaders should be free (as previously).
Or you can make the point that each new "faction" is $5, thus $30 (as previously).

Both similarly true and false in my eyes. I'm not going into what's a fair price for the packs, but I think it shouldn't surprise anyone that they went with the second option.

As for expansions, I found GS at $40 outrageous for what it delivered. But it set the new standard price for civ expansions. I expect the same for civ VII: the first expansion that introduces mechanics will be $40. The only exception to this would be if they offer a season pass in 2026. Then I could see something like expansion + 2 packs for $100 with some bonus leaders/personas/civs or expansion + 2 packs for $80

I suppose if you're counting both leaders *and* civs as independent then you could argue that there is price parity. That feels overly generous to Civ7 though, and if I were to do the same math for Civ6 then I would say that, for example, the New Frontier Pass included 9 civs and 9 leaders for a cost of $40, or just ~$2 per civ/leader. That, of course, would be a kind of crazy assessment. No, the reality is that Crossroads of the Worlds contains 4 civs at the price of $30.

Yes, I calculate civs and leaders separately, but, as @Siptah said, there's no way to directly compare them, because in Civ7 civs has much more, for example included wonder.

Moreover, I don't think there's a point in such comparison. We know how price is formed - it's still $5 per DLC piece, and you could expect other prices to follow the same approach as before.

Well, because we don't know what DLC packs are coming in the future, or what the prices are. Then your statement is invalid mate. We will have to wait and see what they announce in the future and at what price.

1. The statement is based on 2 current DLC packs. For them this statement is valid.
2. We don't know what content will be announced later and for which price, but since it follows previous patterns so far, we could make educated guesses.

I get it, but I think the pricing they have settled on for DLC is already resulting in releasing DLC that is too expensive for the content it delivers, and I think the negative reviews reflect this.

Yes, $30 for 4 civs, 2 leaders, 4 wonders (included with the civs but improve the game overall), 4 natural wonders, and irrelevant cosmetics is too much.

But I don't think that the reviews for the DLC would be much less negative if it would have been $25 or even $20, as long as it is in its current state - and people feel that Britain should have been in the base game. Many reviews mention the high price, but I somehow feel they would also mention the price if it was lower, except if it would be much, much lower (like $12). If you look at the civ VI DLCs, everybody is up in arms over how much overpriced $5 for a civ and a scenario is...

At a 88% negative review score, not sure many would agree that at 8 bucks a Civ and for withheld content is anything other than a scandal, with or without the wee free badge.
With ZERO new content - Scam

Look. No matter how you look at it. Its pure speculation. There's really only 1 main DLC so far. The Crossroads of the World pack priced at £25. Now until there are more DLC announced, we just do not know. You don't even know if they will follow previous patterns. Its likely that there will be at least on major DLC with an Atomic Age to the Space Age. But, its anybodies guess as to how much that would cost.

What? There are 2 officially announced DLC packs, each costing $30 (in USD, GBP costs are proportional). So it's a pretty solid base for approximation.

More like 9 leaders since each new civ came with one.

If DLC packs are about $30 I'd expect any new expansion to be close to double that with more civs and mechanics, or at least more expensive than GS.

It's not the case with Civ6 and I don't see why it should be the case with Civ7. Civ6 expansions cost $30 and $40, while the latest DLC pack is $40.

There's nothing significantly changing in Civ7 prices compared to Civ6, other than +$10 for the base game (which reflects overall inflation), so I don't see why expect those changes in expansions specifically? Sure, everything could change, but at least there are clear expectations based on data.

I see 2, one is upgrade to deluxe edition, the other is crossroads of the world pack. Then then there is the deluxe persona pack at £8.99. But the 2 DLC priced at £25 are basically the same. The upgrade to deluxe edition gives you all that's in the crossroads dlc anyway. So, in effect there is only 1 major DLC at the moment. But all this is irrelevant, because you are just basing your views on pricing etc, on what has gone before. But the fact is that we don't know what other DLC is to be announced and we don't know how much they will be.

Then if the latest DLC pack is $40 I'd at least expect a no less than a $50 first full expansion.

The Digital Deluxe content for Civ 6 was about $20 U.S. and those are similar to what we have now coming with really only civs, leaders, natural/wonders minus the scenarios. R&F then came out 10 dollars more.
NFP was $40 but it also brought in game modes which I do believe why it was more expensive and comparable to a full expansion.

The second is "Right to Rule" collection. As a part of Founder's Edition it's not being sold now, but we know it's content and its price within Founder's Edition
