Open Letter to Firaxis

Comrade Aart and Swedishguy, actually Radar Artillery and SAM Mobile came with I think one of the patches of Warlords. All the artwork, but no XML. Someone did work out the XML, I have included those in my mods, as have many people. So think it would be maybe 5 mins work for Firaxis to include those.

eldar, thanx for that!

nstutt, yup can agree with that fer sure. Was it CivIII that had the 3D animated advisors?

King Flevance, thanx for posting!

Nephrite, thanx for your post!

flyingchicken, hmm, interesting ... Could we maybe do that using the defense and attack mods that is being discussed in the Cruise Missiles and Cruisers thread that I met you on ...

Thanx again all!

I would like to see a better global warming model. Existing deserts and plains expanding ( not just randomly generating a desert/plain tile ). If GW continue coastel tiles turn into ocean tiles ( simulating increasing sea level ) but on the other hand, ice tiles turn into tundra, tundra tiles turn into grasland. This way there could be a twist. Empires with lot of tundra/ice can use GW intentionaly to improve their land ( some kind of terraforming ) and harm others ...

Not Poland again!

Isn't the world too Eurocentric as it is?

I know: Let's get ALL 170+ nations of today as Civs.

In fact, there is absolutely no difference between a "state" and a "civilization" for Firaxis, as exemplified by their inclusion of various European "civilizations," so that won't be a problem.

Not only 170+ nations of today! All the nations of all time periods!

Some expansion pack that will make BOO-YAH. I won't do the math, but there will be quite a number of new leader traits if they don't want practical clones of leaders.

:joke:

1. Please add in the ability to defy and/or ignore the U.N. You would incur diplomatic penalties with most other civs, but you could get diplomatic bonuses with other nations who are defying the U.N. in the same way.

2. Give military units the option to patrol. Set waypoints and have your units move through them. If an enemy is detected, automatic movement is stopped and the player takes over. It would be great for patrolling coastlines, fogbusting, etc.

3. Allow each city to adjust it's tax rates independantly. All cities collect the same amount of taxes from the people, but one city may spend most of that money on cultural development (Vegas) while another may spend most of it's tax money on research (a college town) and another may concentrate on wealth generation.

Why ask Firaxis for all this?

There's a reason they set all the phython and SDK stuff - because they can't be stuffed :p apart from rolling out expansion after expansion - each of which offering minor tweaks and 'features' the community has already made.

Electronic Arts is often lambasted for it's cynical profiteering - as I don't know about Firaxis' working conditions, they seem by far more so.

EDIT

My request to Firaxis:
1. Clean up the sloppy coding. Plenty of room for optimisation and otherwise improvement.
2. An editor.

But I wouldn't hold my breath.

That's why, in the end, we all just want

A powerful,

User-friendly,

Editor.

With a few premade unit models and stuff, but that's just a a bonus.

I would like to see the possibility to set the soundtrack music for each civilization. For instance, if I choose to play Indian Empire, the music that I choose for that civ will be played. If I choose Russia, then I should have a Russian music in diffrent eras etc.

Also, a great idea is to have the soundtrack change during the wartime ! I would really like to see music change into a war music ( the one I could set ) when I am at war !!! We can already set diplomatic music during the war and peace, so why not to have this possibility with the soundtrack music !!! ??? Small thing that could be improved in the expantion pack !!! I am looking forward to it !!!

We love this stuff, keep it coming. The lead designer on BTS (Alex) was an avid Civ fan long before he came to us at Firaxis, so don't think for a second that this input doesn't matter. :)

If half my city is covered by deserts in the nineteenth century I'm gonna be mighty pissed. I would like to see more units so its not as cookie cutter, more options for the UN such as resolutions able to be passed on aggressive civs and the ability to ignore them, and mass revolts creating civil wars. This could allow new less powerful leaders to be inserted into the game like a rip off Rome Total War Barbarian Invasion. :)

I just have a few trivial requests, very trivial:

  • Please allow us to keep the leader choice from the previous game in the game start screen. Right now the game only stores the map and difficulty settings but I still have to reselect the leader whenever I start a new game. I guess many people are like me - like to experiment with the same leader for a number of games before moving on to the next.
  • In addition to the "random leader" choice, which picks any one leader out of all available leaders, is it possible to allow us to hand pick a group of our favorite leaders and save it as "random favorite leaders" option? Personally I hate playing leaders with late UU and UB (e.g. American, Germany) because I usually avoid modern wars. This option will save me from restarting the game but give me some degree of randomness in leader choice.
  • Provide us a "continents map without isolation" option, please. Playing 40 rounds in order to know my powerful Persian immortals are on their own is no fun. Pulling out the Worldbuilder to check and regenerate map should not be the solution.
  • Grant us a "no coastal start" choice. OK, I play coastal start once in a while, but there is no need to give us coastal start 80% of time when I play with a civ with Fishing tech. It can get boring.
  • An issue related to coastal start: please provide a bit of more water tiles improvements. Right now you start with 1 food 2 gold and end at 2 food 2 gold, as if more advanced fishing equipments and technology don't help netting more fishes at all. There is also something fish farming.
  • Give workers a bit more to do. Right now you need a lot of them to get tiles improved in the early game, then you can put them to sleep till the discovery of replacement parts and railway, then you can put them to sleep again. I guess I don't mind getting a job like that.
  • Why incense must be in desert? Incense is a big deal in ancient era, so it's a bit ridiculous I can't use it till I have enough food after discovery of Biology.

Now that is a surprise. I can't imagine how any of you can wade through the huge quantity of design suggestions and debate in these forums.

In that case, I second the ability to allow air units to sink ships. :p Also bulking up air vs. navy aspect.

Also, bring in more units that don't require a resource - or make iron not be such a monopoly on military production for units. As it stands, Iron is all you need until oil, then you need both, or oil+aluminum. Not having iron, means you don't get to build most units in the game. Crossbows should be without iron IMO.
