anyone play the goerring gambit? i used to, but it's not that good if the other guy knows how to play it. the first game in sample games is goerring gambit. that guy did not know how to play it...

I once bought "Open Gambits" by George Botterill (Batsford - 1986) with a view to learning the Göring Gambit which always had a good reputation... or so I thought.

Black often has so much respect for this gambit that it is normally declined (...Nf6, ...d5, or ...d3). Yet Botterill states that it is really stronger for Black to accept the gambit.

In your sample game, Botterill states "5 Bc4 does not give White sufficient compensation for his two pawns against 5 ... cb 6 Bxb2 d6!"

The last time I played it was in 5 minute chess.
