Has anyone else here tried playing FreeCiv, the opensource Civ (I) version that runs on Linux? I've played in briefly on some of the new distributions that bundle the FreeCiv server and client, and I'm not very impressed. I would think anyone used to any version of Civ II or III would be very disappointed by this.

No, its purely legitimate, and OpenSource (free)...

I playe it, didn't like it... They really need FreeCiv III or at least FreeCiv II, because the CIv I systems are too dated now.

Well, if it's Open Source, there shouldn't be anything stopping anyone from downloading it, and making it better. :)

You can get FreeCiv here http://www.freeciv.org/download.phtml

Pretty complicate, as most Open Source is, because they don't package things with the end user in mind. For example, the GUI front end is a separate utility :undecide:

Played it and didn't like it much. There seems to be a derth of people working on graphics for OSS projects - except for FPSers.

Boooooo... . I hated it. Why would we play a game from so long ago? That's like SPAM (the food), it may have been amazing and revolutinary at the time but now it just sucks.

Okay, I suck at analogies so sue me :p

Nah, it is just made by people that loved Civ1. Did you know that there are still people out there that play Civ1?

Red Baron rocks!:D

Nothing about about freeciv here, I just had to add that to the discussion.:p

If I had started Civving when Civ 1 was around, i would probably enjoy it. But now...
