Orbis Tactics question

First, let me say that I am a moron. Truly. I hope I'm not posting this question in the wrong place.

In short, I have a game going on immortal (which is possibly the main issue): I'm the lizard people invading the Clan. They have a city w/ tons and tons of Heavy Inf. and archers. And I'll be damned if I can break through. I use stacks of catapults, nothing. Catapults, blowdarts, Wyvern Guardians, nothing. It's still early/mid game, so not much magic yet.

I feel like I'm missing an essential battle tactic in Orbis, or is it simply that I have the difficulty way too high (the rest of the game balances out nicely at this setting - Empire size, tech, power, etc.)

Thanks for your time

And it's not just you. Higher difficulties increase the combat difficulty a lot more than they increase the difficulty in other areas. A while back there was a change to FfH that gave AI units free EXP points on high levels while taking away some of the tech bonuses they got on the really high ones, and all the :):):):)ing modmodders copied that change lockstep. I have no idea why.

It doesn't help that you're fighting the clan, one of the more military-focused civs. But generally this is a problem with high difficulty level warring in FfH and its mods, period.

Ay caramba!

Thanks man, that makes total sense. Yeah, all of their troops have tremendous exp. Wondered about that as well. Perhaps a Save As scenario, reload at lower difficulty is in order. Maybe that will help. Any thoughts on the difficulty cutoff for such silliness? Does this happen on Monarch?

Thanks again

Free XP by difficulty level (it's the same in FfH and all modmods)

Prince: 1
Monarch: 2
Emperor: 4
Immortal: 6
Deity: 8

In most incarnations, every AI unit and every unit you have gets 2 extra from apprenticeship early on, but that's not in Orbis. This pretty much means that most of the time the immortal AI gets 1 promotion over you but in Orbis they get 2.

Make of that what you will.

You're not going to be able to easily invade the clan without forcing them to go bankrupt and using technology to your advantage, sadly. Their doublebuilding is just plain nasty, overall.
