I need some help to understand something.

I am wandering if it is possible to use the server version of os 10.2 as if it was a client version. I actually have the possibility of getting the server edition for "free" and I need to know if it will do the same job as the client version...

Can someone answer?

I'm not all that well versed in OS X server, but I believe the "free" component you are talking about is called "Darwin," Apple's open source package on which X is based. Darwin is more like linux, with no GUI I believe. the details are on their website.

Because its open source I believe you can download it or request a copy of it from Apple on their website.

The last version of osx (up to 10.1.5) the only difference between client and server was the price and what you got for that price. the system software is exactly the same but with server you get a bunch of server admin tools which meant you didn't need to know how to use unix via the terminal, everything was graphical. but you can do all the same things in each (meaning serve the web, ftp ...) I don't know if 10.2 is the same but I would guess it is. if you can get osx server, get it. the cheapest retail you can get is a five user license for $499.
